Britain still has a domestic watchmaking presence, but it is small beside the UK market for watches overall. Euromonitor International estimates that imports represented 96.3% of the UK watch-and-clock market in 2024. Bremont is a documented example of a company manufacturing watches in England; that does not mean every British brand, or every component in a British-made watch, is domestic.
How big is the UK watch industry?
The clearest recent snapshot in the available market evidence is Euromonitor International’s September 2025 summary of the UK watch-and-clock industry. Its figures are commercial estimates for 2024, not official government statistics.

The figures describe different things: the UK market’s reliance on imports, the estimated value of domestic production, a company count and an industry profitability measure. They do not establish how many watches are wholly made in Britain. The available evidence does not provide an official ONS series specifically covering UK watch-and-clock manufacturing output, employment and exports, so the commercial estimates should not be mistaken for a complete official account of the sector.
Are any watches still made in Britain?
Yes. Bremont provides a documented current example. The company describes its Henley-on-Thames site, The Wing, as an end-to-end UK watch manufacture and says its watches are designed, manufactured and assembled in England. It also says it has brought parts of its process onshore.

Those are Bremont’s own descriptions of its facility and work. They establish a UK manufacturing operation, but do not independently verify the origin of every component or prove that every model follows the same supply chain. Euromonitor’s estimate that Bremont accounted for 38.0% of UK industry production value in 2024 is a separate market estimate, not an audit of where its watches’ parts were made.
Companies House lists Bremont Watch Company Limited as active and includes manufacture of watches and clocks, wholesale, retail and repair among its business activities. Its filing page showed accounts overdue when accessed on 8 October 2026. That filing-status observation is not evidence, by itself, of insolvency or operational failure.

What does “British-made” mean for a watch?
A brand’s nationality does not tell you where its watch was designed, where the movement or components came from, or which manufacturing operations took place in Britain. “British brand,” “designed in Britain,” “assembled in Britain” and “manufactured in Britain” are not interchangeable descriptions.

- Movement and component sourcing: Where were the movement and major components made or sourced?
- Machining and finishing: Which parts were shaped, treated or finished in the UK, if any?
- Assembly: Where was the watch put together?
- Regulation, testing and inspection: Where were accuracy and final quality checks carried out?
A company’s statement about one stage does not settle the others. The available evidence does not establish a single watch-specific UK origin standard that makes these descriptions equivalent. For a particular model, look for model-level information about the movement, components and work performed at the UK facility rather than relying on a brand’s location or a broad “British” label.
What do Swiss exports and UK retailers tell us?
Swiss exports help describe the UK’s role as a watch-buying market, not the output of British manufacturers. The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry FH reported that Swiss watch exports in 2025 were worth CHF25.6 billion, down 1.7% year on year, while exported volume fell 4.8% to 14.6 million watches. These are global Swiss export figures; they do not measure UK production or predict how UK watchmakers performed.

In the first half of 2026, FH reported that Swiss watch exports to the United Kingdom rose 5.8% and described UK demand as robust during the period. That is evidence of demand for Swiss watches entering the UK, not of a revival in domestic British output.
Retail scale is another distinct measure. Watches of Switzerland Group reported 191 showrooms across the UK and US, alongside seven retail websites, as at 3 May 2026. The combined UK-and-US showroom figure illustrates the scale of a luxury watch retailer’s distribution network; it is neither a UK-only store count nor a count of manufacturers.

How should a buyer assess a British watch claim?
For a purchase decision, separate the watch’s provenance from its brand identity and retail channel. A practical check is to look for specific, model-level answers to these questions:
- Where are design and engineering carried out?
- What is known about the movement and the origin of major components?
- Which operations—such as machining, finishing, assembly or final inspection—take place in Britain?
- Does the information come from the company, an independent source, a commercial market estimate or an official register?
A UK factory, British brand name or British retailer may be relevant, but none alone establishes that all parts of a watch are made in the UK. The most defensible conclusion from the current figures is narrower: domestic watch manufacture remains visible, while the UK market is heavily import-supplied and the available data do not quantify a fully British-made share.
