Its modern fragrance business has a clearer financial record: Kering reported more than €250 million in Creed revenue for the year ended March 31, 2023. Kering acquired Creed that year, and L’Oréal completed its acquisition of Kering Beauté, including Creed, on March 31, 2026. Those facts tell two related but distinct stories: the company’s account of its heritage and the documented growth and ownership of its modern perfume business.
What is the House of Creed?
The House of Creed is a luxury fragrance business whose products include Aventus, which Kering described as one of the brand’s iconic fragrances when it announced its acquisition in 2023. Its history is presented in two layers: Creed’s own account of a much older family and tailoring tradition, and a more recent corporate record that documents the fragrance business’s scale and changes in ownership.
That distinction matters. Creed’s heritage pages describe a long lineage of craft, but the available company and transaction records do not independently establish an uninterrupted perfume business dating to 1760.
How does Creed tell its origin story?
A London tailoring-house beginning, according to Creed
Creed’s current heritage page says the House was founded in 1760 on Conduit Street in London by James Henry Creed as a tailoring house serving British royalty and aristocracy. The same page describes seven generations of craft and presents perfumery as an evolution of the tailoring house’s standards. These are the company’s own heritage claims, rather than independently verified details of every stage of the House’s history. Creed’s heritage account

Creed’s UK history page says the company hired a professional archivist to investigate its family record. It recounts the stories of James Creed and his son Henry, along with the family’s tailoring work and royal connections. The page also discusses earlier family records and later tailoring work, so its emphasis is not identical to the current heritage page’s account of a 1760 Conduit Street founding. The accounts should not be compressed into a more exact chronology than the company itself establishes. Creed’s UK history
How tailoring became part of the perfume story
Creed’s UK history page places scented gloves and garment hemlines in the broader context of historical links between clothing and fragrance. The company uses that context to explain its transition from tailoring to perfumery. It does not, on its own, establish that a particular Creed perfume was made in a specific year.

The same page credits Olivier Creed with transforming the business from 1,000 bottles “to what it is today,” and says he and his son Erwin created fragrances at Fontainebleau when the page was published. Those are company statements about the House’s development; they do not independently date the start of a modern fragrance business. Creed’s UK history
How does Creed describe its craft today?
Creed’s current heritage page says the company is based in Paris and has a factory near Fontainebleau, where it makes many of its own essences. It describes ingredients being sourced, weighed, mixed and macerated by hand. These details explain how Creed presents its current production practices, but they are the company’s account rather than an independent audit of its factory, sourcing or methods. How much revenue does Creed make?
Kering reported that Creed generated more than €250 million in revenue for the full year ended March 31, 2023. This is the strongest sourced financial measure of the brand’s scale in the available corporate record. It is a reported figure for that specific period—not a current annual revenue figure or a standalone valuation. Kering’s June 26, 2023 announcement
Kering’s investor presentation of June 26, 2023 also described a luxury and prestige fragrance market of approximately €35 billion, based on 2021 retail sales and citing Bain analysis. That is dated market context, not a current market-size estimate or a Creed revenue measure. Kering’s investor presentation

Who owns Creed perfume now?
Kering acquired Creed in 2023
On June 26, 2023, Kering announced an agreement to acquire 100% of Creed from funds controlled by BlackRock Long Term Private Capital Europe and chairman Javier Ferrán. In announcing the deal, Kering called Creed a major global luxury fragrance house and identified Aventus as an iconic fragrance. Kering’s acquisition announcement
L’Oréal completed the acquisition in 2026
On October 19, 2025, Kering announced an agreement to sell Kering Beauté, including Creed, to L’Oréal. The announced €4 billion value applied to a broader package that included Kering Beauté and long-term beauty and fragrance licenses for Kering brands; it was not Creed’s standalone price or valuation. The deal was expected to close in the first half of 2026. Kering’s 2025 announcement

What does Aventus tell you about Creed?
Aventus is a useful example of the House’s present-day fragrance business: Kering named it as an iconic Creed fragrance in its 2023 acquisition announcement. It is not evidence of what the company made in the eighteenth century, nor does the source establish its current price, stock, or performance on skin.
For someone comparing Creed fragrances, practical points to check include scent profile, intended wearer or occasion, concentration, bottle size, and the current price from an authorized retailer. The available sources establish Aventus’s relevance to the brand, but do not provide comparative wear tests, current prices, or availability.
