That is a historical price comparison—not proof that either car is still on a dealer lot today. Check local inventory before making plans, and treat the advertised starting price as only one part of the cost.
Which 2024 cars had the lowest starting prices?
Kelley Blue Book’s September 28, 2023 comparison reported a $16,130 starting price for the 2024 Nissan Versa and $16,695 for the 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage. KBB also said the Kia Rio and Kia Soul were confirmed below $20,000 at the time, while noting that mandatory freight could push most models above that line. Its article was a dated shortlist, not a complete final ranking: KBB had not yet received final 2024 Hyundai Venue pricing.

The figures are not perfectly like-for-like: KBB’s entries are editorially reported starting prices, while Kia’s figure is an explicitly stated MSRP with exclusions. The source material does not establish destination-adjusted prices for all three on one consistent basis, so this is a useful snapshot—not a definitive out-the-door ranking.

Why do Nissan’s sources give two Versa prices?
The Versa is the apparent price leader, but Nissan’s published materials do not agree on a single starting number. Its September 2023 pricing announcement gives $16,130; the 2024 Versa press kit gives a $16,680 starting MSRP and lists $1,140 for destination and handling. Kelley Blue Book reported $16,130 in September 2023.
Because the figures appear in different Nissan materials and the press kit separately identifies destination, do not silently treat them as interchangeable or use one as a definitive current price. Confirm the trim and price basis with the seller. Nissan also says MSRP excludes tax, title, license, and options, and that dealers set actual prices.

Does “still buy” mean these cars are available now?
No. A 2024 model-year price article shows what models were priced like in that period; it does not establish current stock. Dealer inventory varies by location and changes over time. Check local listings or contact dealers directly for remaining new-vehicle inventory, and verify the model year, trim, mileage, condition, and selling price before comparing offers. Nissan’s current cars and sedans page describes its present lineup, but does not confirm that a 2024 Versa is available near you.

How to compare affordability beyond the sticker price
A low starting MSRP can help identify a less expensive entry point, but it does not tell you what you will pay or whether the purchase fits your finances. Add the charges omitted from the listed figure and compare financing on the same terms.
- Get the complete selling price. Ask for the vehicle price, destination and handling, dealer or retailer charges, options, and applicable taxes, title, and registration costs. Nissan says dealers set actual prices; Kia’s Forte page explicitly excludes several of these costs from MSRP.
- Compare loan offers using identical assumptions. Look at the amount borrowed, annual interest rate, term, and total amount repaid—not just the monthly payment. A longer term can lower the payment while increasing the time spent paying interest.
- Include ongoing ownership costs. Fuel, insurance, maintenance, repairs, and depreciation affect the household cost, but the available figures here do not support a consistent total-cost comparison among the listed cars.
- Match the car to actual needs. Price alone does not compare passenger space, cargo utility, safety equipment, or fuel economy across the shortlist. Avoid treating the lowest MSRP as proof of best overall value.
The Center for Automotive Research’s August 2024 report examines vehicle transaction pricing and loan affordability in relation to loan amount, interest rate, and term. It also notes that its set of sub-$25,000 EVs reaches that price only after tax credits—an important reminder that a qualifying incentive is not the same as a vehicle’s sticker price. What the Versa offers besides its price
Nissan describes the 2024 Versa as a carryover available in S, SV, and SR grades. Its press kit lists Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Automatic Braking, and High Beam Assist as standard. Nissan reports up to 40 mpg highway for models with the Xtronic CVT and up to 15 cubic feet of trunk capacity. These are manufacturer-published specifications; the fuel-economy figure is specifically for CVT-equipped models.
Those details can help a buyer decide whether the Versa suits their needs, but they do not establish that it is the best overall choice against every low-priced 2024 rival. Comparable equipment, fuel economy, destination-adjusted pricing, financing, and ownership-cost figures are not established here for all contenders.
