Google Voice can work for a business, but the right option depends on whether you need a single line or a managed phone service for a team. Personal Google Voice subscriptions for eligible Gmail users are single-user plans; business Google Voice is a paid add-on to Google Workspace, which is billed separately. For a team, choose based on user count, call routing, locations, recording and reporting needs, and whether you already pay for Workspace.
Can you use Google Voice for your business?
Yes. Google offers a managed Google Voice service for organizations using Google Workspace, as well as separate subscriptions for eligible personal Gmail accounts. They are not interchangeable: Workspace Voice is administered by the organization and offers team-oriented features, while personal subscriptions are for one user. Google describes Voice as providing calling, texting and voicemail through web and mobile apps. See Google Voice setup and its business product page.
For a small business, the key question is not simply whether Voice can make calls. It is whether the plan supports the way your staff answer calls, how many users need service, and what administration or compliance requirements apply. Workspace is a separate subscription, so the Voice add-on is not the full cost if your organization does not already have an eligible Workspace plan.
How much does Google Voice for business cost?
Google’s US product page lists the following Workspace Voice add-on prices in USD per user per month. A Google Workspace plan is required and billed separately. These are US page prices accessed October 8, 2026; confirm the live price and local calling rates for your country before budgeting, since offers, rates and availability can change.

Which Google Voice plan fits your team?
Starter: a small team with straightforward calling
Starter is the tier to consider when you have no more than 10 users and need core business calling without the more advanced shared-reception tools. It includes support for desk phones and analog telephone adapters (ATAs), but Google’s reviewed material does not establish specific compatible models. Confirm compatibility with current Google and vendor documentation before buying hardware.

Standard: shared reception and call distribution
Standard removes the Starter user limit and adds features for handling calls across a team, including ring groups, auto attendants and call queuing. It also includes eDiscovery and SIP Link. These features make it the relevant tier to examine if callers need a shared reception path or calls must be distributed among staff rather than simply forwarded to one person.
Premier: recording and advanced reporting needs
Premier adds automatic recording, transcription and AI notes, and reporting through BigQuery, along with unlimited international billing locations. Consider it when those capabilities matter to your operations; do not assume automatic recording is appropriate without checking consent rules and your organization’s policies.

Does Google Voice for business include auto attendants?
Auto attendants are listed among Standard features and are also included in higher-tier plans. They are different from forwarding calls to linked phones. Forwarding can make a Voice number ring linked devices, but Google says forwarding calls onward to an automated system is unsupported. For an automated reception menu or similar business call handling, evaluate Workspace Voice’s auto-attendant feature rather than trying to chain ordinary forwarding rules. See Google’s call-forwarding guidance.
Can you port your business number to Google Voice?
For a managed Workspace account, number porting is an administrator-led process. Google’s personal-account porting instructions explicitly direct Workspace users to contact their administrator. Do not apply the personal account’s $20 porting fee or its workflow to a business port without separate confirmation; that information is for personal account ports. Start with your Workspace administrator and Google’s number-porting guidance.

- Full stereo sound for your music, movies and games
- Rotating microphone boom can be worn on your left or right side
- Adjustable headband gives you a customized fit
- Works with Windows 10 or later, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Mac OS X 10.5 or later, Chrome OS, Linux Kernel 2.6 plus and iOS or Android devices
Can you use a desk phone with Google Voice?
Google lists desk-phone and ATA support on eligible paid Workspace Voice plans, but the available sources do not identify particular compatible models. Treat hardware support as a category-level capability, not proof that a phone or adapter you already own will work. Check the current Google and device-vendor compatibility information before purchasing or deploying equipment.
What should a business check before switching?
- Team size: Starter supports up to 10 users; Standard and Premier are listed for unlimited users.
- Call handling: If callers need ring groups, queues or an automated attendant, compare those needs against Standard’s team features.
- International operations: Premier lists unlimited international billing locations. Verify service availability and rates for the countries where your team will be billed or make calls.
- Workspace cost: Add the separately billed Workspace plan to your budget if you do not already have one.
- Existing numbers and devices: Have the administrator confirm the business porting process and check phone or ATA compatibility before making a change.
- Connectivity: Google says internet calls use about 0.2 MB of data per minute. This is its estimate; actual usage and call experience can depend on network quality and speed. See Google’s internet-calling guidance.
Emergency calling and call recording require attention
Do not assume every Google Voice setup handles emergency calls identically. Google says the emergency-call path depends on whether an organization manages the Voice account or the call goes through a mobile carrier. Verify the configuration and applicable local requirements for your organization using Google’s internet-calling and emergency-call guidance.

- ⚠️ DESK PHONE ONLY — Check Your Port Before Buying: This is an RJ9 headset designed exclusively for desk phones. It uses a 4-pin RJ9 connector — NOT compatible with computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones. RJ9 wiring varies by phone brand. If your microphone doesn't work, try all 3 included adapters — different brands use different pin configurations
- Tuned Exclusively for Calls & Conference Audio — Not Designed for Music Playback The headset’s speaker drivers are calibrated to deliver crisp, intelligible speech during phone calls. Its sound signature prioritizes spoken dialogue: voices come across clear and natural, yet the rich, immersive sound needed for music, movies and gaming cannot be achieved.
- Pro Noise-Canceling Microphone: Flexible uni-directional boom mic filters out office chatter, keyboard clicks, and AC hum. Your callers hear your voice with studio-like clarity — not your environment. Adjustable boom arm for perfect positioning
- Single-Ear Awareness Design: Mono design keeps one ear free — stay aware of teammates, ambient office sounds, and doorbells while on calls. Ideal for call center agents, receptionists, and collaborative open offices
- All-Day Lightweight Comfort: Ultra-soft PU leather ear cushion with ventilated design + adjustable headband. Designed for 8+ hour shifts without ear fatigue. Cloud-like fit that stays comfortable through back-to-back meetings
Recording availability depends on the plan and account situation. Google Voice Help warns: “Recording calls without the consent of all call participants may not be legal in some jurisdictions.” Check the laws that apply to your business and establish a consent process before enabling recording. See Google’s call-recording guidance.
