The ten airlines with the strongest UK brand recognition, measured by YouGov Ratings’ Fame ranking for UK adults in Q2 2026, are Emirates, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, easyJet, TUI Airways, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Jet2.com, KLM and Air France. Ranking those ten brands by the busiest route each one flies, measured by flight frequency, is not possible from the published data we checked: no official source gives comparable flight counts for every brand over the same period.
This article sets out the recognition list and the measure behind it, shows the busiest UK domestic routes that official data does publish, and explains what a fair frequency comparison would require.
The ten most recognised airline brands in the UK
YouGov Ratings publishes a Fame ranking for airlines. The order shown on its “The most popular airlines in the UK 2026” page for the second quarter of 2026 is the basis for this list. YouGov collects Ratings data continuously and updates the rankings quarterly, so the order will change in later releases. Table 1 reproduces the ranks and Fame scores as displayed.

The scores do not run in the same order as the ranks. easyJet, at 98%, sits fourth, and Air France, at 87%, sits tenth, below KLM at 71%. YouGov’s rank order is the ranking used here. Fame measures recognition. It is not a score for positive opinion, flight consideration, market share or passenger numbers.

Why this list uses Fame and not other YouGov measures
“Brand recognition” has no fixed definition in the sources, so the choice of measure decides the list. YouGov publishes several airline rankings that look similar but measure different things. Table 2 sets them side by side.

The difference shows in YouGov’s 2024 BrandIndex consideration ranking of British flyers. In that list, British Airways placed first, easyJet second, Jet2.com third and Ryanair fourth. Ryanair does not appear in the 2026 Fame top ten. That is not a contradiction: consideration asks where people would book next, while Fame asks which brands they recognise. The 2024 list is historical and does not describe the current picture.

Busiest routes in official data: passengers, not flights
No official publication cited here ranks the ten brands by the number of flights on their busiest route. The route rankings that do exist measure passengers, and they cover UK domestic routes only.
UK domestic routes ranked by passengers, 2025
The UK Department for Transport’s 2026 UK Aviation Forecast ranks the busiest UK domestic airport-to-airport routes in 2025 by passenger numbers. Table 3 gives the top ten. The figures measure passenger volume only. They are published by route rather than by airline, so they cannot show which brand flies a given route most often.

A passenger total reflects aircraft size, load factor and the number of flights combined. A route can carry many passengers on fewer, larger aircraft, so a passenger total cannot be read as a flight count.
The CAA’s route-level airline statistics
The Civil Aviation Authority publishes monthly aggregate statistics for each route served by UK airlines, along with monthly and annual airline statistics. Route tables are available in CSV and PDF formats. The PDF can carry data notes that are absent from the CSV, so use both formats together when you extract figures. The CAA’s 2025 annual release includes scheduled-service tables, but it does not present a ranking of busiest routes by frequency for these ten brands. Because the source covers UK airlines, it does not by itself cover the non-UK carriers on the list: Emirates, Qatar Airways, Qantas, KLM and Air France.

What a busiest-routes-by-frequency ranking would need
A fair ranking requires one dataset that covers all ten brands over the same period, with five decisions made and stated explicitly:
- Define frequency. Choose scheduled departures, operated flights or round-trip services, and state which one you used.
- Fix the period. Use the same full calendar period for every airline, and note whether it spans summer and winter timetables, since services change between seasons.
- Define a route. State whether a route is an airport pair (Heathrow–Edinburgh) or a city pair, because London has several airports.
- Attribute each flight. Separate the brand selling a flight from the airline operating it, since codeshares mean one brand can sell services flown by another.
- Sort and report. Rank each airline’s routes by flights in that period, and give the count, period and source beside every result.
Until one dataset meets all five conditions for all ten brands, any “busiest route by frequency” for each airline would be an estimate. Calling a route busiest without naming the metric, whether flights, passengers or seats, is also misleading.

Using these figures for travel decisions
- Recognition is not a schedule signal. A high Fame score shows that a brand is well known. It does not show how many flights that airline runs on the route you need.
- Check the timetable for your dates. Frequency on a specific airport pair depends on the operator’s schedule for the season you fly, so the airline’s own timetable for your dates is a better guide than any national route total.
