The durations below are claims made by the brands, not results from a shared wear test. “Transfer-proof” and “transfer-resistant” are also distinct claims; neither establishes how a product will perform on every wearer or in every situation.

Choose by the trade-off that matters most
If you want matte color
All three are presented as matte or matte-leaning options, but the labels do not tell you how dry, flexible or comfortable a formula will feel on your lips. Maybelline and L’Oréal make the same advertised maximum-duration claim, while Stila emphasizes a matte-meets-comfortable finish. Those descriptions are useful starting points, not proof that one wears longer or feels better for you.

If transfer matters
Maybelline uses “transfer-proof” language; L’Oréal describes its formula as “transfer- and smudge-resistant.” These are not equivalent assurances, and neither tells you how much color will remain after eating, drinking or contact with clothing. If minimal transfer is essential, check the exact shade’s current product information and, where possible, try it before relying on it for an event.
If removal matters
Stila specifically recommends applying an oil-based makeup remover or cleansing balm, letting it sit on the lips for several seconds, then gently wiping away the pigment. For the other two products, the information available here does not establish a comparable removal method. Check their current packaging or official product directions rather than assuming all long-wear lipsticks remove the same way.

How to compare them fairly before choosing
A meaningful comparison separates what the brand promises from what you observe. If you test products yourself, use the same conditions for each and record the shade and routine so the result is useful rather than a guess based on wear claims.
- Prepare consistently. Start with lips in a similar condition for every product. Note any balm or other lip product used beforehand, since it may affect application or wear.
- Apply the same way. Record the number of coats and how long you let each product set. Compare ease of application, precision, color payoff and whether the finish looks even.
- Check comfort at more than one point. Note how the lipstick feels soon after application and later. Comfort and longevity are separate qualities; a long-wear claim does not tell you how the formula will feel on your lips.
- Use consistent wear checks. At the same intervals, observe transfer, patchiness, fading and how the color looks after your ordinary activities. Distinguish your observations from the brand’s stated duration.
- Include removal. Note what removes the product and how much effort it takes, following the product’s directions. Do not scrub aggressively to compensate for an unsuitable remover.
A personal comparison reflects the wearer, shades and conditions used; it cannot establish a universal result. Shade-specific formulas or ingredients may differ, so check the packaging for the selected shade and review it for ingredients relevant to your own sensitivities.
