For maximum carry-on capacity
The Carry-On Max expands from 50 to 62 liters and includes a packable tote. That extra room comes with real trade-offs: the case weighs heavily when packed, according to Travel + Leisure’s testers, and the expanded dimensions can trigger a gate check. Compare the dimensions with your airline’s limit in the configuration you plan to use; do not assume the expanded case will be accepted in the cabin.

The conventional Carry On Pro adds a front laptop compartment and organizing pockets, plus an ejectable power bank. The front section can make essentials easier to reach without opening the main compartment, but Travel + Leisure found its zipper less smooth than desired. If a flight requires the case to be checked, July says to remove the Carry-On Pro Snapsleeve.
The Capsule Carry On Pro is a separate, newer design—not another name for the conventional Carry On Pro. Wallpaper’s 2026 coverage gives it dimensions of 55.6 × 35.7 × 25 centimeters, a weight of 4.1 kilograms, and 43.5 liters of capacity. Its top-down access and magnetic quick-access panel offer a different way to reach the interior, but the airline-fit warning makes checking the exact model especially important.

For a medium or large checked bag
The Checked CaseSafe is Travel + Leisure’s medium checked pick, described as manageable compared with larger cases and suitable for roughly seven to nine days. The trade-off is that its aluminum corners may scratch during transit.
For more volume, the Checked Plus Expandable is aimed at overpackers and shared family packing. Travel + Leisure’s testers reported smooth rolling. Senior testing editor Jackie Cucco described its pockets and organizational features, including “a compression panel that you can buckle down tight to flatten clothing,” and said she traveled with it on multiple trips to Copenhagen and Wyoming. Large checked cases need a packed-weight check: the review warns that this model can exceed a common 50-pound limit when full, and baggage limits vary by carrier.

For a trunk-style set
The July Trunk Set pairs a carry-on with a checked trunk. Travel + Leisure describes an 80/20 layout and latch closures, and reports 95 liters of capacity in the checked trunk. Because that trunk does not expand and latches offer less overpacking flexibility than zippers, buy for the volume you can realistically pack rather than relying on the case to stretch. The review also notes that the trunk cannot take CaseSafe.

There is no single yes-or-no answer for every July carry-on: airlines set their own size limits, and acceptance can depend on the specific model and its travel configuration. July’s guidance says, “We recommend checking with your specific airline before you travel.” It specifically warns that the Capsule Carry On Pro may not pass every airline gate sizer; Travel + Leisure separately cautions that an expanded Carry-On Max may be too large and could be gate-checked.

Before departure, check the rules for each airline on your itinerary, including connecting carriers. Measure the suitcase with any expansion zipped or unzipped as you intend to use it, and compare that measurement with the carrier’s limit. If you expect to check a large case, also check the airline’s packed-weight allowance and weigh the bag before leaving.
Is July luggage worth it?
July’s range is most useful when you match the model to a concrete packing need: lighter empty weight, more expandable volume, laptop access, or a medium or large checked case. The standard Carry On is the most balanced choice in Travel + Leisure’s review, while its limited pockets may matter to travelers who rely on internal compartments. For the other models, weigh the useful feature against the relevant compromise—airline fit, organization, scratch risk, or packed weight—before choosing.
Travel + Leisure says its July 23, 2026 review drew on 25 pieces of July luggage across sizes. Its reported process included packing cases, rolling them over carpets and obstacle courses, overhead-bin checks, drop and impact trials, and sending cases to travel editors for up to six months of travel testing. Those observations describe that publication’s testing, not a separate test conducted for this article.
What July’s warranty covers—and excludes
July’s US warranty guidance describes a limited lifetime warranty for specified functional defects, including problems with wheels, zippers, and handles; breakage of nylon compression straps; and certain cracks or breaks in the shell or aluminum bumpers. The warranty is not a promise to cover every kind of damage. July excludes cosmetic damage such as scratches and scuffs, ordinary wear, defects from improper use, and secondhand cases or purchases without direct proof of purchase. The ejectable power bank has a separate two-year warranty. Check July’s US warranty terms for the applicable conditions and exclusions before buying or making a claim.
What to check before buying
- Trip length and volume: Choose capacity for what you actually pack; do not treat a larger expandable capacity as a guarantee of cabin acceptance.
- Empty case weight: Prioritize the Light Expandable if a lower case weight matters, while accounting for its limited organization.
- Access and organization: Decide whether front laptop access, internal pockets, compression, or a simpler interior best fits the way you pack.
- Airline dimensions: Check every carrier on your itinerary and compare its rules with the case measured in your intended configuration.
- Checked-bag weight: Weigh a large case after packing against your carrier’s allowance.
- Warranty terms: Read the current exclusions and keep direct proof of purchase if you may need warranty service.
July’s checked-bag range includes the regular Checked model, which July lists at 80 liters and describes as having a German polycarbonate shell, aluminum corner bumpers, a multi-stop handle, YKK zippers, an integrated TSA lock, a laundry bag, a Y-Strap compression system, and 360-degree wheels. These are manufacturer-listed features, not independent durability findings. July also lists packing cells and a checked luggage cover as accessories; consider packing cells if you want to add organization to a case whose interior layout is sparse.
