The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 had the lowest effective payment in Electrek’s January 2025 EV lease roundup: $190 a month over 24 months, with $999 due at signing. The offers are historical, and the advertised payment alone does not show the full cost.

In Electrek’s January 2025 roundup, the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 had the lowest effective monthly payment among the listed EV lease offers: $190 a month over 24 months, with $999 due at signing. That is different from its advertised payment of $149 a month. These are historical offers, not current quotes; availability and terms depended on location and dealer.

Which EV had the best lease deal in January 2025?

Using the lowest effective monthly payment as the measure, the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 ranked first in Electrek’s table. Electrek said its roundup was updated January 24, 2025, and based the offers on CarsDirect data. Its effective-payment figures account for the stated amount due at signing, making them more useful for comparing the listed offers than the advertised monthly payment alone.

The table below reproduces the reported terms. “Effective per month” is the figure shown by Electrek; the roundup did not provide a consistent set of lease details such as mileage allowance, taxes, and fees for every vehicle. Read Electrek’s January 2025 roundup for its original context.

Vehicle Advertised monthly payment Term Due at signing Effective monthly payment
2024 Volkswagen ID.4 $149 24 months $999 $190
2025 Kia Niro EV $149 24 months $3,999 $315
2024 Kia EV6 $159 24 months $3,849 $319
2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 $189 24 months $3,999 $355
2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6 $159 24 months $3,999 $326
2024 Fiat 500e $211 42 months $211 $216
2024 Toyota bZ4X $219 39 months $2,999 $296
2024 Honda Prologue $229 36 months $1,299 $265
2024 Subaru Solterra $279 36 months $279 $287
Tesla Model 3 and Model Y $299 36 months $2,999 $382
2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV $299 24 months $3,169 $431

Why the advertised payment can give the wrong impression

The ID.4 and 2025 Kia Niro EV were both advertised at $149 a month, but their stated upfront payments differed by $3,000. Electrek’s effective figures were $190 a month for the ID.4 and $315 for the Niro EV. A low monthly payment may depend on a large amount paid at signing, so compare the upfront amount and the full term—not just the headline number.

The term also matters. A monthly figure over 42 months is not directly comparable to one over 24 months unless you account for the complete lease cost and the conditions attached to each offer.

Where the January offers applied

Lease promotions could vary by state. Electrek reported the $229-a-month 2024 Honda Prologue offer for California and other zero-emission-vehicle (ZEV) states; it reported Prologue leases starting at $249 a month elsewhere. The roundup does not establish that every other offer was available nationwide, so treat its figures as advertised examples rather than guaranteed terms for every shopper.

  • INCLUDES REPLACEABLE 40A FUSE HARNESS – Includes SafeAMP 12V 9.5AH SLA battery, red 2-pin connector harness, and replaceable 40-amp fuse for added protection and convenient installation.
  • DESIGNED FOR COMPATIBLE 12V RIDE-ON VEHICLES – Intended as a replacement battery for ride-on toys using the red 2-pin connector and requiring a battery measuring approximately 151 x 65 x 99 mm.

For broader context, Electrek cited Cox Automotive as expecting EVs to account for 7.5% of U.S. auto sales in 2024 and reported an 8.5% EV market share in November 2024, with more than 116,000 units sold. Those are historical figures, not current market conditions.

What to verify before comparing or signing a lease

The January roundup does not state a uniform set of contract terms for each model. For a current decision, ask the dealer for the complete written offer and check:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Total amount due at signing: Confirm what it includes, such as the first payment, fees, or other charges.
  • Lease duration and mileage allowance: Check the term and permitted miles, plus any charge for exceeding the allowance.
  • Taxes and fees: Find out which costs are included in the advertised payment and which are added.
  • Eligibility: Ask about credit qualifications, residency restrictions, and any other conditions.
  • Vehicle and trim: Confirm the model year, trim, and inventory available at the quoted price.
  • Location: Verify that the promotion applies in your state and at the dealer making the offer.

For a live search, GreenCars describes a deal-finder with filters for payment range, vehicle type, and lease term, along with expert assistance. Its page was published January 3, 2025 and says the resource is updated regularly; the overview itself does not establish the terms of any current offer. See GreenCars’ EV lease-deal resource, then confirm any offer directly with a local dealer.
