Short answer: There are worthwhile technology promotions in August, but most are back-to-school or summer offers—not November Black Friday deals. Buy now only when the price, configuration and return protection are unusually good or you need the product before November 27. Otherwise, set a target price and wait.

How to read this early-Black-Friday guide
I use “early Black Friday” narrowly: a promotion explicitly marketed as Black Friday or holiday shopping, or a demonstrably unusual current price that is worth buying before November. A normal August sale is labeled seasonal or back-to-school instead. A large percentage off an inflated reference price does not automatically make a product a deal.
US Black Friday is November 27, 2026, about 14 weeks after this price check. Every recommendation below is therefore a buy-now, good-but-not-urgent, wait or expired decision—not a promise that August pricing beats November.

TV deals: judge the panel, not the percentage
No current TV price in the supplied offers is specific enough to call a live best buy. LG’s promotion page is the strongest current manufacturer signal, while Best Buy’s Samsung U7900 example is already expired. A smaller discount on a good TCL, Hisense, Sony, Samsung or LG can be better value than a huge discount on a dim, slow entry-level LED.
What to verify before buying
- Write down the complete model number and screen size. Retailer-exclusive “SE” or “Series” variants may have different processors, ports or panels.
- Identify the technology: OLED generally delivers the best dark-room contrast; mini-LED and QLED can deliver more brightness per dollar; standard LED/LCD models vary widely.
- For gaming, check native refresh rate, HDMI 2.1, 4K/120Hz and variable refresh rate—not just the word “gaming.”
- Check HDR formats, local dimming, smart-TV platform and upscaling quality.
- Add delivery, installation, wall mounting, haul-away and any warranty cost to the purchase total.
Current LG promotion
LG lists up to $700 off select OLED TVs and up to 40% off select monitors in its current promotions. “Up to” applies only to selected products, and LG says price, eligibility, location, selection and retailer availability can vary. Verify the model, expiration and final cart price at LG’s promotions page.
Buy now when: the exact OLED or mini-LED model is at a documented recent low, you need it for a move or bright-room setup, and the return window extends far enough to protect an early purchase. Wait when: the offer is only an ordinary discount on a mass-market model or the television is a current flagship likely to be repriced in November.

Laptop deals: specifications decide whether the discount is real
For a primary Windows computer in 2026, target 16GB of RAM and at least a 512GB SSD unless the machine has a very specific light-duty purpose. Compare the exact processor and generation, not branding alone. Also check display brightness and resolution, webcam, battery evidence, weight, ports, warranty, operating-system restrictions and whether the seller is a marketplace vendor.

Microsoft’s student bundle
Microsoft lists a promotion valid April 15 through August 31, 2026, while supplies last. Eligible US college students who purchase qualifying PCs can receive 12 months of Microsoft 365 Premium, 12 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and an Xbox controller. This is potential bundle value, not a cash-equivalent price cut. It is compelling for a student who would otherwise pay for the services and use the controller; it is weaker for someone who already subscribes, does not game or would choose a cheaper laptop without the bundle.

Dell’s PC-and-monitor promotion
Dell advertises 50% off a qualifying monitor when purchased with a qualifying PC or laptop. Confirm the qualifying configurations, coupon behavior, shipping date and warranty on Dell’s back-to-school page and the product page. Do not select an inferior computer merely to unlock a monitor discount.
When a laptop sale is a trap
- 8GB RAM or 128GB storage can make an apparently cheap laptop poor value for a main computer.
- “Windows in S mode” restricts app installation until you switch out of S mode.
- Gaming laptops discounted for an old GPU, small battery or low-colour-gamut display may not be bargains.
- Refurbished, open-box and marketplace units have different warranties and return rights from new, retailer-sold stock.
- A free year of software can renew at a paid rate; record the cancellation date.
Monitors, tablets, audio and accessories
Keep these purchases selective. A monitor deal should specify size, resolution, refresh rate, panel type, brightness, USB-C power delivery and warranty. For tablets, compare storage, operating-system support and accessory costs. For headphones and earbuds, check the exact generation, codec support, battery claims and return hygiene policy. A low headline price is not enough to justify a product with weak support or missing accessories.
LG’s “up to 40% off select monitors” promotion is a lead, not a category-wide discount. Samsung’s dated offers can include trade-ins, credits or delayed gifts; verify each product’s complete terms at Samsung’s featured-offers page. Lenovo’s catalog shows why timing matters: early access, member pricing, limited-quantity doorbusters and timed drops can produce different prices for the same configuration at Lenovo’s Black Friday catalog.

- The price is unusually low against a recent, documented selling price—not merely MSRP.
- You need the product before November for school, work, travel or a move.
- The configuration is uncommon, inventory is limited or a model is being replaced.
- The retailer’s return and price-adjustment terms protect you through a meaningful part of the November period.
Wait
- The item is a current-generation flagship with only a modest discount.
- The sale price appears regularly throughout the year.
- A successor is expected, or the offer depends on financing, trade-in, membership or an expensive service plan.
- The return window will end before Black Friday, preventing a repurchase or price adjustment.
Set a target price
Save the exact model number, current price, seller, shipping charge and return terms. Set an alert for a price you would genuinely accept, then recheck the product rather than assuming a percentage-off badge is meaningful. Best Buy says its prices may begin before or continue after advertised dates and that offers can change, have limited quantities and exclude products; there are no rain checks. How to avoid an early-purchase regret
- Confirm the seller. Prefer the retailer or an authorized manufacturer seller over an unknown marketplace listing.
- Capture the exact deal. Save the model number, cart price, delivery charge, coupon, membership requirement and expiration date.
- Calculate ownership cost. Include subscriptions, accessories, installation, delivery, activation and possible renewal charges.
- Read the return and price-protection policy. Holiday extensions and exclusions differ by retailer and product.
- Inspect the product on arrival. Check the panel, ports, storage, memory, accessories and condition while the return period is open.
- Track November. If the price falls outside the adjustment period, compare the cost and hassle of returning and rebuying before the deadline.

How much RAM should a laptop have in 2026?
For a general-purpose Windows laptop, 16GB is the sensible target. Treat 8GB as a constrained budget configuration and check whether the memory can be upgraded.
Do Black Friday deals use inflated original prices?
They can. Compare the current price with the product’s recent typical selling price, not only the retailer’s stated MSRP or “was” price.
What if the price drops after I buy?
Check the retailer’s price-adjustment policy and deadline immediately after purchase. If the drop is outside that window, returning and rebuying may be possible only if the product remains in stock and within its return period.
