Amazon Prime Day 2023 ran July 11–12, 2023. The best Kindle deal for most readers was the 8GB Kindle Paperwhite for $89.99. It cost only $25 more than the basic Kindle but added a larger screen, warm lighting, and waterproofing. The $64.99 Kindle was the lowest-cost option, while the Scribe, Oasis, and Kids models made more sense for specific needs.
This is an archived guide to U.S. Prime Day 2023 prices—not a list of deals currently available.

#1 Best Overall
- Our fastest Kindle Paperwhite ever – The next-generation 7“ Paperwhite display has a higher contrast ratio and 25% faster page turns.
- Ready for travel – The ultra-thin design has a larger glare-free screen so pages stay sharp no matter where you are.
- Escape into your books – Your Kindle doesn’t have social media, notifications, or other distracting apps.
- Battery life for your longest novel – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 12 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
It was particularly useful for nighttime reading, travel, poolside use, or reading near a bath. The basic Kindle was cheaper, but the Paperwhite’s extra $25 bought features many readers notice every day. That makes it a better value than simply choosing the model with the largest percentage discount. Engadget’s contemporary roundup reported the price and feature differences.
Best value upgrade: Paperwhite Signature Edition — $124.99
The 32GB Paperwhite Signature Edition sold for about $124.99–$125, roughly $35 more than the standard 8GB Paperwhite. That reduced premium made it unusually competitive.
The upgrade added:
- 32GB of storage;
- wireless charging; and
- automatic front-light adjustment.
It was worth considering if you stored comics, audiobooks, or a large library, or if wireless charging mattered. For someone who mainly reads novels, however, the standard Paperwhite was usually sufficient and cheaper.
Cheapest good Kindle: Kindle (2022), 16GB — $64.99
The 2022 basic Kindle fell from $99.99 to $64.99. It included 16GB of storage and a 300-ppi display, making it a strong entry-level choice for first-time ebook readers and travelers.

The compromises were a smaller screen, no waterproofing, and fewer lighting features than the Paperwhite. It also generally required buying a case separately. Choose it when the lowest upfront price and light weight matter more than reading comfort in dark or wet environments.
Best Kindle for writing and PDFs: Kindle Scribe — $254.99
The 16GB Kindle Scribe dropped from $339.99 to $254.99 and included the basic pen. Its 10.2-inch E Ink display made it the specialist choice for handwritten notes, PDF annotation, and documents that feel cramped on a conventional Kindle.
Other reported Scribe prices were $294.99 for 32GB and $319.99 for 64GB. Storage and the exact pen or bundle contents mattered, so the cheapest listing should not be assumed to include the same configuration. The eBook Reader’s detailed deal list breaks out the Scribe variants and accessories.
The Scribe was not a sensible purchase for someone who only wanted to read novels. Its value depended on actually using the writing and document features. Check the total bundle price: the reported Scribe Essentials Bundle cost only about $30 more than the device in some listings and included a cover and wall charger, while the cover alone was listed at $50 on sale.

- Effortless reading in any light - Read comfortably with a 6“ glare-free display, adjustable front light—now 25% brighter at max setting—and dark mode.
- Escape into your books - Tune out messages, emails, and social media with a distraction-free reading experience.
- Read for a while - Get up to 6 weeks of battery life on a single charge.
- Take your library with you – 16 GB storage holds thousands of books.
Best for physical page-turn buttons: Kindle Oasis — $164.99
The 8GB Kindle Oasis fell to $164.99 from $249.99. It offered physical page-turn buttons, a rotating seven-inch display, waterproofing, and an adjustable front light. The 32GB version was reported at $184.99, while a 32GB cellular model was listed at $254.99.
The buttons were the reason to choose the Oasis—not the discount alone. It was an older design, originally introduced in 2019, and the Paperwhite offered a more compelling general-purpose value. Readers who prefer tactile buttons or the Oasis’s ergonomic shape could still find the sale worthwhile.
Best budget Kids deal: Kindle Kids — $74.99–$75
The Kindle Kids (2022) was a strong family-value package at approximately $74.99–$75. It was based on the standard Kindle and normally cost about $120.
The bundle included a child-focused case, parental controls, a two-year warranty, and one year of Amazon Kids+. That made it more valuable than comparing its price with an adult device alone. It suited younger readers whose families did not need waterproofing or the Paperwhite’s warm light.

Best waterproof children’s option: Paperwhite Kids — $104.99
The 16GB Paperwhite Kids sold for $104.99. It added the Paperwhite’s larger display, warm light, and waterproof construction, along with a case, extended warranty, and one year of Amazon Kids+.
It was the better choice for children who read outdoors, near water, or at night. Contemporary coverage used reference prices ranging from approximately $160 to $170, so treat the saving as a reported comparison rather than a single universally applicable MSRP.

Eligible Prime members were offered three months of Kindle Unlimited at no charge during the event. Contemporary coverage reported a $12-per-month price afterward, and existing subscribers could be excluded.
Kindle Unlimited did not include every major new release or bestseller. It was therefore a temporary subscription promotion, not a permanent reduction in the Kindle’s cost. Check the renewal terms and cancel before the trial ends if you do not want paid billing.

A three-month Audible Premium Plus promotion was also reported. Its value depended on whether you actually listen to audiobooks; it should not be counted as hardware savings.
Accessories, trade-ins, and the real purchase price
Prime Day discounts also covered Paperwhite, Oasis, and Scribe covers, Scribe pens, and replacement tips. Accessories could change which listing was the better deal, especially for the Scribe and Kids models.
One contemporary deal list reported an additional 20% off the Prime Day price when trading in an old Kindle. That was a retailer promotion, not a universal discount: eligibility, device condition, and timing could affect the final result. See the reported accessory and trade-in details.
How to choose among the 2023 deals
- Want to spend less than $70? Choose the 16GB basic Kindle.

- Need extra storage or wireless charging? Consider the 32GB Signature Edition.
- Want to write or annotate PDFs? Choose the Scribe, after checking the pen and bundle contents.

Important caveats
- These were U.S. prices from July 11–12, 2023, not current offers.
- Storage capacities, cellular connectivity, advertising status, and bundle contents could change the price.
- Rounded figures such as $75 and $125 reflect how some outlets presented prices; exact checkout prices were $74.99 and $124.99 where reported.
- Prime eligibility was required for the event’s member pricing, subject to Amazon’s terms.
- Subscription trials could renew as paid plans.
For a current purchase, compare today’s models and promotions rather than assuming a 2023 Kindle or price is still the best option. Amazon’s later official coverage shows that newer Kindle generations and categories have since entered the lineup; it is not evidence that these 2023 deals remain available.
