The $300-a-month plan was called SuperGrok Heavy. xAI launched it on July 9, 2025, alongside Grok 4. Its main differentiator was access to Grok 4 Heavy—a multi-agent reasoning system that works on problems in parallel and compares or synthesizes the results.
That $300 price is a launch price, not necessarily the current price. xAI’s 2026 product pages now describe a broader Grok service with newer model labels, image and video generation, connectors, and Grok Build. Check the current official pricing page and checkout screen before subscribing.
What was SuperGrok Heavy?
SuperGrok Heavy was xAI’s highest-end consumer subscription when Grok 4 launched. The advertised price was $300 per month, or $3,600 per year before taxes if paid for 12 months at that rate.
The subscription was not simply “Grok 4 for $300.” Standard Grok 4 was also made available to eligible SuperGrok and X Premium+ subscribers. Heavy’s premium feature was access to Grok 4 Heavy, along with higher-end access and early previews of new capabilities.

xAI positioned the plan for demanding users rather than ordinary chatbot use. The intended audience included researchers, professional developers, businesses, and people willing to pay for more compute-intensive responses and early access.
Grok 4 versus Grok 4 Heavy
| Capability | Grok 4 | Grok 4 Heavy |
|---|---|---|
| Standard chat | Yes | Yes |
| Native tool use | Yes | Yes |
| Real-time search | Yes | Yes |
| Multi-agent reasoning | Not its defining feature | Core differentiator |
| Consumer access at launch | SuperGrok and X Premium+ tiers | SuperGrok Heavy |
| API access | Available separately | Do not assume it was included with the subscription |
According to xAI’s launch announcement, Grok 4 Heavy could use multiple agents to tackle a problem, compare their work, and produce a final answer. That approach can be useful for difficult reasoning tasks, but it is not a guarantee of accuracy. Several agents can repeat the same flawed assumption, take longer, and produce a confident but incorrect consensus.
What ordinary Grok 4 included at launch
xAI said Grok 4 offered:
- Native tool use.
- Real-time search integration.
- Access through SuperGrok, X Premium+, and the xAI API.
- An upgraded voice mode with camera or visual understanding.
- Access to the standard Grok 4 model for eligible subscribers.
Those features should not be confused with Heavy-only access. The $300 tier was primarily about the Heavy reasoning mode, higher access or usage priority, and early access—not about unlocking every basic Grok 4 capability for the first time.
What was promised versus what was included
At launch, xAI also discussed forthcoming products, including an AI coding model, a multimodal agent, and a video-generation model. These were announced or planned products, not necessarily day-one entitlements included in the $300 subscription.

This distinction matters when evaluating an expensive technology subscription. A roadmap promise should not be treated as a guaranteed benefit, and “early access” does not mean every subscriber receives unlimited use or permanent access.
What the current Grok service includes
xAI’s current documentation describes a wider Grok ecosystem than the one available at the 2025 launch. The official Grok overview lists capabilities including:
- Text chat and reasoning.
- Web and X search.
- Voice interaction.
- File uploads, including PDFs, images, spreadsheets, code, and audio.
- Image and video creation through Grok Imagine.
- Connectors for email, files, and calendars.
- Grok Build.
- Web, iOS, and Android access.
The current official pages refer to newer model and product labels, including Grok 4.5 in documentation and Grok 4.6 on the pricing page. These labels should not be treated as interchangeable with Grok 4 Heavy. Grok 4 Heavy describes a premium reasoning approach, while newer version numbers identify later model or service generations.
What is Grok Build?
Grok Build is an early-beta creation environment rather than a simple chatbot setting. You describe an idea in chat, and Grok generates code and a working preview. It can be used to create websites, apps, games, and interactive dashboards.
xAI said Build Mode was available to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers on the web, iOS, and Android as of July 28, 2026. Availability and access can still vary by platform, country, account, and subscription status.
Does SuperGrok Heavy include unlimited usage?
Do not assume so. Current xAI documentation says paid SuperGrok plans use a shared weekly usage allowance. That means a higher-end plan may provide more access without providing unlimited chat, image generation, video generation, voice, or Build usage.
The retrieved official pricing information does not clearly publish a complete numerical quota table for every feature and tier. Before paying, check the live account page for the limits that apply to your country and platform. Also verify taxes, monthly or annual billing, and any promotional offer.
Does the $300 subscription include API credits?
There is no basis for assuming that it does. xAI announced Grok 4 API access separately from its consumer subscription. Developers should treat xAI API documentation and the xAI console as a separate billing system unless the current subscription terms explicitly say otherwise.
In practical terms, paying for chatbot access at Grok.com should not be treated as prepaid API usage for an application, automation, or production workload.
Who could justify paying $300 a month?
SuperGrok Heavy could make financial sense for a relatively small group:
- Researchers: People who regularly submit complex reasoning problems and can benefit from additional compute.
- Professional developers: Users who make extensive use of advanced coding, agent, or Build features.
- Businesses: Teams that can measure saved labor or revenue from faster research, prototyping, or analysis.
- Heavy multimedia users: People who frequently use image and video tools and routinely encounter lower-tier limits.
- Grok-specific researchers: Users who place a high value on live X and web search.
The right calculation is not whether the plan is impressive. It is whether the subscription creates at least $300 of measurable monthly value after accounting for taxes, limits, and the time needed to verify outputs.

The plan is difficult to justify if you mainly use AI for casual questions, occasional writing, brainstorming, or simple coding. It is also a poor fit if you rarely reach the limits of a lower tier or if you primarily want ordinary Grok 4 access.

Best Value
Businesses that need predictable published quotas, mature administration, procurement controls, or enterprise-grade governance should evaluate those requirements separately. A premium consumer plan is not automatically an enterprise product.
If your main priority is research with citations, compare the workflow with search-focused services such as Perplexity. For general-purpose assistant features, review current offerings from ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini. The relevant comparison is the workload—not simply the monthly sticker price.
What to check before subscribing
- Confirm the current SuperGrok Heavy price on xAI’s live checkout page. The $300 figure is verified for the July 2025 launch.
- Check whether your country, app store, and account show different prices or taxes.
- Review the current weekly allowance and how it is shared across chat, images, video, voice, and other tools.
- Confirm which features are available on Grok.com, iOS, Android, X, and the API.
- Check whether X Premium+ already provides enough Grok access for your needs.
- Do not count announced or planned products as guaranteed benefits.
- Keep API costs separate from the consumer subscription in your budget.
Bottom line
SuperGrok Heavy was a premium compute-and-access tier, not a fundamentally different chatbot that every Grok user needed. At launch, its $300 monthly price bought access to Grok 4 Heavy’s multi-agent reasoning, higher-end access, and early product access. In 2026, the Grok service has expanded, but the exact current Heavy price and feature quotas require checking the live official offer. For most users, the plan only makes sense when difficult, frequent workloads or Grok-specific tools produce clear value above the cost.
