That description applies to the November 6, 2025 deal reported by Wareable. It does not establish that Amazon still has the same watch at that price. The original report does not identify enough detail about the band, finish or SKU to assume every 40mm SE 2 listing is equivalent.

In context, yes: “last Black Friday” meant Black Friday 2024, because the article was published on November 6, 2025. Wareable said $159.99 matched the SE 2’s previous low. That is a reported price-history claim, not a comprehensive audit of every retailer and every configuration, so “reported lowest-ever price” is the precise wording.

That is current software compatibility, not a promise of a fixed number of future updates. The SE 2 is still a 2022-generation watch, so remaining support and battery life will generally be less predictable than with a new model.

A GPS-only SE 2 also depends on the paired iPhone being nearby for calls, messages and other connected functions. Independent cellular use requires a GPS + Cellular model and usually a carrier plan with recurring charges. Apple Watch is not compatible with Android phones.
The missing health features are feature differences, not proof that the SE 2 is unsafe. Fall Detection, Crash Detection and heart-rate alerts have practical limits and are not substitutes for medical diagnosis.

SE 2 versus Apple Watch SE 3
The SE 3, announced in September 2025, is now Apple’s current entry-level model. Apple’s U.S. store lists it from $249 for 40mm GPS and $279 for 44mm GPS; GPS + Cellular starts at $299 and $329 respectively, depending on size and configuration. Confirm current prices on Apple’s buying page.

At $159.99, the SE 2 was $89.01 below Apple’s $249 40mm GPS SE 3 starting price. The SE 3 therefore cost about 56% more than the historical SE 2 deal. Apple lists newer hardware such as the S10 chip, 64GB storage, fast charging, double-tap and wrist-flick gestures, and on-device Siri processing in its SE 3 specifications.
When the SE 2 makes financial sense
Buy it at about $159.99 when
- The listing is new, genuine and sold with a normal manufacturer or retailer warranty.
- You have a compatible iPhone and mainly need notifications, workouts and safety features.
- You accept the lack of an always-on display and advanced health sensors.
- The price is roughly $70 to $90 below a comparable SE 3.
Choose the SE 3 when
- The gap falls below roughly $50 to $70.
- You want newer hardware and the longest practical support runway.
- The watch is for a child or family member and is expected to stay in service for several years.
- You prefer Apple’s current model and its direct-sales warranty process.
Consider refurbished only with clear terms
A refurbished SE 2 should cost materially less than a new one to compensate for cosmetic wear and uncertain battery longevity. Require a meaningful warranty, a stated battery-health policy, a clear seller identity and a return period. Do not treat a refurbished marketplace watch as equivalent to the original new-unit deal.
