There is no single pizza cutter that is best for every pie. A handled wheel rolls through a familiar range of crusts, a rocker blade presses down across a broad cut, and pizza scissors shear slices while helping lift them from the pan. The right choice depends on your crust and toppings, how you want to handle the cut, and how much cleanup and safe storage matter to you.
This comparison draws on published tests by America’s Test Kitchen in 2023 and Parade in 2026, alongside product details from BBC Good Food and manufacturers. Their recommendations are attributed to those sources; the products were not tested for this article.
How these pizza cutter picks differ
The seven options below include handled wheels, rocker blades and scissors. Those designs use different cutting motions, so a recommendation from one test is not proof that a cutter is best for every crust, pan or kitchen.

Parade’s 2026 test covered 12 popular cutters, while America’s Test Kitchen’s 2023 test began with more than a dozen and advanced six finalists. Which cutter style suits your pizza?
Handled wheels: a familiar rolling cut
A handled wheel rolls across the pizza rather than pressing down with a broad blade. It is a practical starting point if you want a compact tool and prefer to guide the cut from a handle. Wheel height, grip and how clearly you can see the blade vary by model.
America’s Test Kitchen’s 2023 winner, the Mercer Culinary Millennia 4-inch, stood out in that publisher’s testing for its sharp wheel, tall visible blade and textured grip. Its testers found it versatile across thin-crust, one-inch Sicilian and two-inch Chicago deep-dish pizzas, as well as heavy wet toppings and pepperoni. They also found it easy to hand-wash, but not dishwasher-safe.

Parade’s overall pick in its 2026 test was the OXO Good Grips 4-inch Pizza Wheel, which it describes as having a stainless-steel wheel and non-slip handle. Do not assume every OXO wheel has those exact specifications: BBC Good Food’s UK listing describes a 10 cm OXO wheel with a plastic blade and dishwasher-safe construction. The descriptions may concern different market models or SKUs, so check the precise product being sold.
Rocker blades: a downward cut across the pizza
A rocker is a long blade that cuts with a downward pressing or rocking motion. It may suit someone who wants to cut across a large pizza in a broad stroke. The shape also changes storage and blade-safety considerations.

Parade describes the Ooni Pizza Cutter Rocker Blade as a 14-inch stainless-steel tool for larger high-heat-oven pizzas, while noting its size can complicate storage. BBC Good Food’s reviewed rocker is a different product, the Gozney pizza rocker: its June 2026 review describes a 2 mm stainless-steel blade, a wide wooden handle and no protective cover. Do not transfer one model’s features to the other.
Pizza scissors: cutting and serving in one motion
Dedicated pizza scissors shear through a slice instead of rolling or rocking a blade. Dreamfarm says its Scizza has a nylon shoe that slides beneath the pizza, helping protect non-stick pans while lifting and serving slices. The maker lists its materials as 420J2 stainless steel, nylon and ABS, and its dimensions as 32 cm long, 7.2 cm wide and 0.20 kg. It also says the blades can be disassembled for sharpening and that the tool is dishwasher-safe. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test findings. Dreamfarm’s Scizza product page has the maker’s details and care guidance.

What published testing does—and does not—establish
America’s Test Kitchen reported on August 31, 2023, that it tested more than a dozen cutters before selecting six finalists. Its comparisons included thin-crust pizza, one-inch Sicilian crust, two-inch Chicago deep-dish, heavy wet toppings and pepperoni. It named the Mercer Culinary Millennia Pizza Cutter 4-inch its winner and reported strengths in wheel visibility, grip, hand-washing and versatility, while noting it was not dishwasher-safe.
Parade’s April 11, 2026, review says Theresa Greco tested 12 popular cutters during family pizza nights, assessing one-pass cutting, comfort and cleanup. It names the OXO Good Grips 4-inch Pizza Wheel as its overall choice and the Williams Sonoma Olivewood Pizza Chopper as a rocker recommendation, among other products. Those results belong to Parade’s test, not an independent test of all seven options in this article.

The two reviews offer useful but different evidence: they were published in different years, tested different groups of cutters and should not be treated as one controlled comparison. Neither establishes that a single format wins in every kitchen.
What to check before choosing
- Crust and toppings: Consider whether you usually cut thin pizza, thick crust, or pies with wet or heavy toppings. America’s Test Kitchen’s test included all of those conditions, but its winner reflects that publisher’s test rather than a guarantee for every recipe.
- Cutting motion and control: Choose between rolling a wheel, pressing a rocker, or shearing with scissors. If grip strength or hand comfort is a concern, try to assess the handle shape and the force needed for your preferred motion.
- Cooking surface: For a non-stick pan, Dreamfarm says the Scizza’s nylon shoe is designed to slide beneath pizza and protect the surface. This is a manufacturer claim specific to that product.
- Cleaning: Verify the care instructions for the exact model. The Mercer winner is hand-wash-only according to America’s Test Kitchen; Dreamfarm says Scizza and Weber says its listed UK cutter are dishwasher-safe.
- Storage and blade protection: Long rockers need more drawer or wall space. BBC Good Food notes that the reviewed Gozney rocker has no protective cover, whereas the Joseph Joseph Disc’s silicone strip covers its blade for drawer storage.
- Price and availability: Check the seller and market where you plan to buy. For example, Weber UK listed part 6690 at £29.99 when accessed on October 5, 2026; prices and availability can change and differ by region.
On grip, America’s Test Kitchen quotes ergonomics and safety professor Jack Dennerlein explaining why its testers found a handled cutter stronger to use than a palm-held enclosed wheel: “The muscles that flex fingers to hold a handle are bigger, hence stronger,” and “So the traditional handled cutter is much stronger.” That observation is about the comparison described in that report, not a universal measure of comfort for every person or design.
Care and safe storage
Check the maker’s instructions for the precise model before washing or disassembling it. A dishwasher-safe claim for one cutter does not apply to another with a similar shape. For a removable or disassemblable blade, follow the product’s reassembly and sharpening guidance, and handle exposed edges carefully.
Dreamfarm specifically instructs users to handle Scizza’s sharp blades with care and keep it out of children’s reach. For drawer storage, a blade cover or enclosed design can reduce exposure; the reviewed Gozney rocker lacks a cover, while BBC Good Food says the Joseph Joseph Disc’s silicone strip covers its blade after cleaning.
