Parents’ 2024 Family Travel Awards named 37 destinations and travel businesses as family-trip ideas, including hotels, resorts, all-inclusives, cruise lines and chains. The list is a historical editorial shortlist—not a current ranking or a guarantee that a property will fit your family. Use it to identify possibilities, then confirm prices, availability and details for your travel dates.
What the 2024 Parents Family Travel Awards cover
Parents’ feature, updated December 20, 2024, groups its selections into six categories: Best in the North, Best in the South, Best in the Midwest, Best in the West, Best Cruise Lines and Best Nationwide. It includes 37 locations across different kinds of travel, so the selections are not all comparable lodging options. A cruise line, an urban hotel and a resort offer different experiences and costs.
Parents said it convened writers, parents and travel experts to nominate and review nearly 100 hotels, resorts, all-inclusives, chains and cruise lines, and consulted real-world parents. Its stated considerations included accessibility, kid-friendly activities, location and entertainment. The feature does not publish numeric scores or category weights, so the list should not be read as a controlled comparative test or an overall ranking.

Examples of the destinations and trip styles
The awardees reflect different family needs rather than one standard kind of vacation. Examples from Parents’ regional sections include:
- North: TWA Hotel in Queens is presented around aviation and airport access; Mohonk Mountain House in New York combines meals and activities in an all-inclusive format; Winnetu on Martha’s Vineyard emphasizes beach access, children’s activities, pools and family room configurations.
- South: Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville is described with water attractions and holiday programming; Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Florida offers a beach-and-activities mix; Asheville River Cabins in North Carolina represents a cabin-style stay.

These descriptions capture how the 2024 feature characterized the properties; they do not establish current schedules, inclusions or availability. The American Resort Development Association republished a Travel + Leisure Co. announcement confirming Club Wyndham Steamboat Springs’ inclusion, but that company announcement is corroboration of the selection, not independent evidence about how Parents chose winners. How to use the list when planning a family trip
Start with the trip you want, rather than treating the award as a reason to book. Parents’ criteria point to useful questions, but the practical details—and their costs—need to be checked for your own dates and group.
- Choose the right category and location. Decide whether you want a resort, hotel, cabin or cruise, then consider travel distance, transportation and the destination’s fit for your plans.
- Match the property to your children’s ages and needs. Check activity suitability, children’s-club age limits, accessibility and whether entertainment is offered during your visit.
- Compare the full cost, not just the room rate. Ask what meals, activities and amenities are included and what costs extra. Confirm the current price directly with the property or cruise line before making a budget.
- Verify room arrangements and amenities. The feature describes examples such as multi-bedroom villas, kitchenettes, pools, children’s clubs and included activities. Confirm that the configuration and amenities you need are available for your dates, and ask about restrictions or fees.
- Check seasonal operations and booking terms. Confirm opening dates, activity schedules, cancellation terms and any conditions that could affect your trip before paying.
For example, a family comparing a resort with a kitchen-equipped villa should check whether the specific room type is available and how its total price compares with a standard room plus meals. The award description alone cannot answer those booking questions.

What the awards do—and do not—tell you
The list is useful as a starting point for families looking for a kid-friendly resort, cruise line or destination a teen might enjoy. It does not guarantee suitability for every family, establish today’s prices or verify that a feature is operating when you travel. Treat the award as an editorial recommendation from 2024, then make the decision using current property information and your family’s budget and needs.
Parents links readers to properties’ own websites. That provides a route for further planning, but the feature does not establish that those links are affiliate links or that any commission or partner program is available. Sandestin also published an entry about the award in its media room.
