The deal headline referred to the 14-inch 2024 MacBook Pro with Apple’s base M4 chip, 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD. On May 8, 2025, a deal report listed it at $1,373.34, down from Apple’s $1,599 U.S. launch price—a precise reduction of $225.66, or about 14.1%. That was the lowest price the publication had tracked for this configuration at the time, not a guaranteed current or all-time low.
Because the offer is historical, check the live seller, condition, stock and return terms before paying. Later indexed listings have appeared below $1,373.34, while some marketplace offers were sold out or fulfilled by third parties.

Display and design
The 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display runs at 3024×1964 resolution and supports ProMotion up to 120Hz, wide P3 color and high-dynamic-range brightness. That is a meaningful step above the standard MacBook Air display for HDR video, photography and color-sensitive work.

Ports and connectivity
You get MagSafe 3, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, a headphone jack and three Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports. Those built-in connections can eliminate a dock for photographers, video editors and users with HDMI displays, although USB-A equipment or multi-monitor setups may still require an adapter.
Performance, memory and storage
The 10-core M4 and 16GB memory provide a sensible baseline for development, large photo catalogs and sustained creative applications. The fan-equipped Pro chassis is designed for longer workloads than a fanless Air, but the specifications alone do not prove superiority over newer chips without comparable testing.

512GB is comfortable for general work but can fill quickly with 4K footage, raw photos, virtual machines or game libraries. Professional users should budget for an external SSD or a larger internal-drive configuration.
Battery and camera
Apple rates this model for up to 24 hours of video streaming or up to 16 hours of wireless web use under its stated test conditions. These are maximum estimates, not guaranteed real-world runtimes. The laptop also has a 12MP Center Stage camera. Apple Intelligence support depends on compatible operating-system versions, language settings and region; Apple explains those conditions in its announcement.

Who should buy it
- You specifically want the XDR/120Hz display.
- You need built-in HDMI and SDXC rather than relying on dongles.
- Your work includes sustained coding, video, photography, 3D or other technical tasks.
- 16GB memory and 512GB storage meet your planned workload.
- The verified price is materially below a comparable newer Mac and the seller provides clear warranty and returns.
Who should choose something else
MacBook Air
For browsing, documents, communication, ordinary coding and light creative work, a current MacBook Air is usually the value choice. Apple’s 2026 education materials reference M5 MacBook Air models, so compare the current Air’s price and memory/storage directly rather than assuming a discounted 2024 Pro is automatically better. See Apple’s MacBook Air buying page and education hardware document.
Higher-tier MacBook Pro
Choose an M4 Pro, M4 Max or newer Pro configuration when you need more than 16GB of memory, substantially more GPU capacity, larger internal storage or a longer performance runway. The price premium can be justified for heavy video, 3D, machine-learning and compilation workloads.
Check these details before ordering
- Confirm the listing says base M4, 16GB memory and 512GB SSD; 256GB, 1TB, M4 Pro and different-memory versions are not equivalent.
- Verify whether the unit is new, Apple Certified Refurbished, open-box or used.
- Check who sells and ships it. Marketplace inventory may have different warranty and return terms.
- Confirm the color, keyboard layout and regional model, especially for imported stock.
- Read the current return window and warranty. Apple Certified Refurbished units include a one-year limited warranty and 14-day returns according to Apple’s refurbished listing.
- Check taxes, shipping, membership or coupon requirements and whether the color is actually in stock.
- Verify Apple’s display-support specifications for your exact external-monitor arrangement.
New, refurbished and marketplace options
| Option | Best for | Primary caution |
|---|---|---|
| New retailer inventory | Buyers wanting sealed hardware and a discount | Seller, stock and fulfillment can change |
| Apple Certified Refurbished | Warranty-conscious buyers | Not factory-sealed; the generation is older |
| Current MacBook Pro | Buyers prioritizing the newest platform | Higher price |
| Current MacBook Air | Value and portability | No XDR display, HDMI or SDXC slot |
| Marketplace or open-box unit | Maximum possible discount | Condition, seller, warranty and returns need extra scrutiny |
Apple’s refurbished page showed a 16GB/512GB M4 model at $1,359 when indexed—only $14.34 below the historical new-unit deal—so compare the warranty and condition, not just the headline number.
Verdict
At $1,373.34 on May 8, 2025, this was a strong historical price for a new 14-inch base-M4 MacBook Pro with 16GB/512GB. Its value came from combining the Pro display and ports with a practical memory baseline. In 2026, however, treat that figure as a benchmark, not a live offer: check current prices against newer MacBook Air and Pro models, and buy only after confirming seller, condition, warranty, returns and exact configuration.
