Deal status: The widely reported $200 Amazon discount was a February 12, 2025 promotion, not a currently verified August 2026 offer. It applied to the 2024 14-inch MacBook Pro with Apple’s standard M4 chip, 16GB unified memory and a 512GB SSD. The price fell from $1,599 to about $1,399.99 after an Amazon discount and an on-page coupon.
Do not assume the historical price is still available. Amazon’s live listing, seller, inventory, coupon and checkout total must be checked before buying.

Engadget reported that the final price came from a 10% reduction plus a $39 coupon, while AppleInsider described it as a stacked instant rebate and on-page coupon. See the Engadget deal report and AppleInsider’s price report.
This was the base M4 model—not an M4 Pro or M4 Max. Those versions have different processors, prices and performance, so a listing for one of them is not the same deal.

Apple Intelligence
The M4 supports Apple Intelligence on compatible software, but feature availability depends on the operating system, device and Siri languages, region and the particular feature. Apple initially described features as beta and said availability would expand over time in its launch announcement.
M4 versus the current M5 MacBook Pro
Apple’s current 14-inch MacBook Pro lineup is M5-based. Apple lists a current starting price of $1,699 for the standard-display model, while its comparison information lists 16GB memory and 1TB starting storage for the base M5 configuration. The historical $1,399.99 M4 price was therefore $299.01 lower, but the machines do not have identical storage or chip generations.
| Consideration | Historical M4 deal | Current M5 alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Generation | 2024 standard M4 | Current M5 generation |
| Memory | 16GB | 16GB listed by Apple |
| Starting storage | 512GB SSD | 1TB listed by Apple |
| Price reference | About $1,399.99 after historical coupon | Starts at $1,699 for the standard-display 14-inch model |
| Performance comparison | 120GB/s memory bandwidth | 153GB/s memory bandwidth |
Apple’s comparison page identifies the M5’s newer 10-core CPU/GPU design and the bandwidth figures above, but those specifications alone do not establish a universal real-world speed difference. Check Apple’s Mac comparison page and current buying page for live configurations and prices.

Choose the discounted M4 when
- The exact new 16GB/512GB configuration is genuinely near $1,400 at checkout.
- You want the Pro display, ports and sustained-cooling design for creative work, development or professional applications.
- You are comfortable buying an older generation to save roughly $300 versus Apple’s current starting price.
Choose the M5 when
- The price gap is small enough that newer hardware and a longer likely support runway matter more than the discount.
- You want 1TB starting storage rather than 512GB.
- You specifically require the current MacBook Pro generation.
Check Amazon’s seller, condition and delivery details
Amazon pages can combine multiple sellers and conditions under one product family. Before paying, verify:
- The unit is listed as new, not used, renewed, open-box or refurbished.
- “Sold by” and “Ships from” match a seller you trust.
- The displayed coupon applies to the selected color and configuration.
- The promised delivery date works for you; historical coverage noted that Amazon stock could be backordered while another retailer had inventory.
- The return deadline, warranty eligibility and AppleCare+ availability are clear.
- The serial number and purchase documentation will support Apple warranty service.
You can check Amazon’s current marketplace listings through its 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro search, but the search page does not verify a particular seller or price.

Storage and workflow trade-offs
512GB is workable for office software, schoolwork, coding projects and many creative workflows. It can become restrictive when you keep large video libraries, photo catalogs, virtual machines, extensive codebases or local AI models. The SSD is not a practical user-upgrade, so compare a higher-capacity model before ordering.

The XDR display, HDR brightness and 120Hz refresh rate are valuable for video, photography, design and users who notice smooth motion. For ordinary browsing, writing and streaming, a less expensive MacBook Air may deliver better overall value.
Other buying options
Apple Certified Refurbished M4
Apple’s refurbished product page showed a 14-inch M4 model at $1,359 when captured, although price and stock are limited. Apple says its certified refurbished products include a one-year limited warranty and 14-day returns, with AppleCare available. The condition is refurbished rather than factory-sealed new, and the exact inventory may differ. See Apple Certified Refurbished.
Who should skip the historical M4 deal?
- Casual users who do not need the Pro display, ports or sustained performance.
- Buyers who need more than 512GB of internal storage.
- People who require the newest available MacBook Pro generation.
- Workloads demanding the highest performance for sustained 3D rendering, scientific computing, machine learning or heavy video production.
- Anyone unwilling to accept an older generation for a long ownership horizon.
- Anyone whose apparent bargain applies only to a third-party, open-box, renewed or refurbished listing.
Verdict
The February 2025 $1,399.99 price was a legitimate, attractive discount on a specific 16GB/512GB M4 MacBook Pro, but it depended on an Amazon coupon and is not proof of a live August 2026 promotion. Buy it only when the exact new configuration, reputable seller, coupon and final checkout price are all confirmed. Otherwise, compare Apple’s current M5 model for newer hardware and more starting storage, or choose a MacBook Air if you do not need the Pro’s display, ports and sustained-workload capabilities.
