Yes, the offer is real, but the headline needs a qualification. Coursera’s official promotions page lists 40% off three months of Coursera Plus as of August 18, 2026. Eligible Professional Certificates can be completed under the subscription, but external certification exams, degrees and some other credentials are not automatically included. The promotion page’s indexed copy lists February 12, 2027 as an end date; because Coursera changes campaigns and eligibility, treat the price and expiration shown at checkout as final.
What the 40% Coursera Plus offer actually covers
The promotion is described on Coursera’s official discounts page as 40% off a three-month Coursera Plus term. It is not, based on the published offer, a blanket 40% reduction on the $399 annual plan. Coursera says promotions can vary by country, currency, account, device, taxes and campaign eligibility.
Plus is a subscription to a large catalog of courses, Specializations, hands-on projects and eligible Professional Certificate programs. Coursera’s Plus page advertises more than 10,000 courses and programs, but inclusion is controlled by each program page and the applicable subscription terms.
How much the discounted subscription costs
Coursera’s standard U.S. pricing page lists Plus at $59 per month or $399 per year. If the 40% promotion is applied to three ordinary monthly payments, the arithmetic is:

| Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|
| Standard monthly price | $59 |
| Three months at standard price | $177 |
| 40% discount | $70.80 |
| Estimated promotional total | Approximately $106.20 before tax |
| Estimated effective monthly cost | Approximately $35.40 |
This is an illustration using the published U.S. monthly price, not a guaranteed quote. Regional pricing, currency conversion, tax and account eligibility can change the total. The checkout page is authoritative. Coursera’s promotions page may also show separate annual-plan campaigns, so verify the term before paying.
“Career certifications included” does not mean every certification
Three credentials that are easy to confuse
- Course certificate: Coursera’s completion record for one course.
- Professional Certificate: A multi-course, career-oriented program from a company or university, such as Google Data Analytics.
- Industry certification: A credential awarded after passing an external exam, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft’s PL-300 exam.
For an eligible program, Plus generally covers the learning content and Coursera-issued completion certificate after any applicable trial period. It does not generally pay for an external exam, proctoring, membership, lab, licensing or other third-party fee.

Examples of Professional Certificates shown on Coursera
- Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate
- Google IT Support Professional Certificate
- Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate
- Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Professional Certificate
- AWS Cloud Solutions Architect Professional Certificate
These are examples, not a promise that every program remains included. Open the individual program page and look for the “Included with Coursera Plus” label before subscribing.
What you still have to pay for
The AWS program page explains the distinction clearly: the Coursera program can teach and prepare you for the AWS certification, but the AWS certification exam and its fee must be purchased separately. Microsoft-related programs may prepare you for an exam or offer a voucher discount, while the exam itself remains a separate charge. The same principle can apply to other external exams, labs, memberships and proctoring.

Plus also should not be treated as an automatic degree, university credit or regulated license. Coursera’s terms state that completing a Content Offering does not guarantee professional licensure, certification, qualification or employment. Whether an institution grants academic credit is decided by that institution.
How to claim and verify the promotion
- Open Coursera’s official promotions page.
- Select the current Coursera Plus 40% offer.
- Sign in or create a Coursera account.
- Check whether the offer is for three months, an annual term or another duration.
- Review the displayed promotional price, currency, taxes and any trial language.
- Read the renewal price, billing frequency and cancellation deadline.
- Visit each intended course or Professional Certificate page and confirm its Plus-inclusion label.
- Save the receipt and the offer terms.
Coursera says promotional discounts are generally applied automatically after selecting the offer and logging in, and that only one promo code, coupon or discount can be applied to a subscription or purchase. Do not rely on an old screenshot or an unofficial coupon page if the live checkout shows different terms.

Trials, certificates, renewal and refunds
Free trial
The standard Plus page advertises a seven-day free trial. Coursera’s promotions page warns that discounted plans may use different terms, so do not assume the trial stacks with this 40% offer. Coursera’s terms also say a certificate cannot be earned during a free trial unless you end the trial early and allow the first payment, or let the trial expire without cancelling.
Automatic renewal
Subscriptions automatically renew for periods of equal length unless cancelled. Before purchase, record the renewal price and frequency, determine whether the discount applies only to the initial term, and note the cancellation deadline. Taxes and regional billing can affect the renewal amount.

Refunds
Coursera’s terms specify a 14-day refund period for Coursera Plus Annual. They distinguish annual subscriptions from other plans, so do not assume the same 14-day protection applies to the discounted three-month offer unless your checkout terms say so.
What cancellation does
Cancellation normally prevents the next renewal; it does not necessarily end access immediately. Follow the confirmation shown in your account’s subscription settings and keep the cancellation email or receipt.

Use the promotional price as a break-even test. At the illustrative U.S. total of about $106.20 before tax, the subscription can be attractive if you complete one included multi-course Professional Certificate and use additional courses or projects. Compare that total with the standalone price of the exact program, count only programs marked as included, and add any external exam or lab fees.
Plus is a strong fit when you can
- Complete at least one eligible Professional Certificate within three months.
- Study consistently each week and use related courses, projects or Specializations.
- Explore more than one career path before choosing a longer-term direction.
- Use structured learning to supplement a portfolio, prior experience and job applications.
Consider skipping it when you
- Need only one short course that costs less than the subscription.
- Primarily need an external certification exam, license or university degree.
- Are unlikely to finish coursework before the paid period ends.
- Want academic credit that has not been confirmed by the receiving institution.
- Live in a market where tax and currency conversion make the promotional price uncompetitive.
- Have selected a program that is not Plus-eligible.
A realistic three-month completion plan
- Week 1: Choose one target role, confirm the Professional Certificate’s Plus label and map any separate exam or portfolio requirements.
- Weeks 2–8: Complete the core courses, assessments and hands-on work on a consistent weekly schedule.
- Weeks 9–10: Finish capstone projects and revisit weak areas rather than starting several unrelated certificates.
- Weeks 11–12: Complete a short adjacent course, polish a portfolio artifact or prepare for the relevant external exam. Budget separately for that exam.
Bottom line for buyers
The current offer is best understood as 40% off three months of Coursera Plus, not a universal discount on every Coursera credential. The illustrative U.S. cost is about $106.20 before tax, based on $59 monthly pricing. Buy when you can realistically finish at least one included Professional Certificate and benefit from additional Plus content. Skip or compare standalone pricing when you need one brief course, a degree, a regulated license or a third-party certification exam.
Before submitting payment, confirm the term, final price, taxes, trial status, renewal amount, refund language and Plus eligibility for every program you plan to use.
