The exact ten-hotel list and its ranking order cannot be verified from the accessible sources. A 2024 article names five expensive New York City hotels and reports starting rates, while a separate 2022 national study lists three NYC properties by average nightly cost. Neither establishes the NYC-only top ten for 2022.
Why the exact 2022 top ten cannot be confirmed
David’s Guide, in an article dated January 21, 2024, refers to a list by The Richest described as the ten most expensive hotels in NYC as of 2022. David’s Guide does not reproduce the full list, and the original The Richest page could not be retrieved. The available evidence therefore does not establish all ten hotels or their rank order.

That distinction matters: a list of hotels that are expensive, or a set of prices reported later, is not proof of which ten ranked highest in a particular year. Reconstructing the missing list from other rankings would risk presenting a different dataset as the original.
Five hotels and starting rates reported by David’s Guide
David’s Guide names the following properties and reports these starting rates. Its page does not say when the rates were collected or whether taxes and fees are included. These are reported starting rates—not verified 2022 prices, averages, or a ranking.

What a separate 2022 U.S. ranking says about NYC hotels
A November 3, 2022 article by Your Mileage May Vary reported that Chrono24 analyzed Booking.com prices and reviews for 263 five-star hotels across the United States, ranking properties by average cost per night. Three NYC hotels appeared among the national results:
| Hotel | Reported average nightly cost | National ranking |
|---|---|---|
| The Towers at Lotte New York Palace | $1,309.09 per night | Third |
| Pendry Manhattan West | $1,048.58 per night | Fourth |
| Equinox Hotel | $988.63 per night | Fifth |
These figures belong to a U.S.-wide ranking, not a New York City-only top ten. The source reports the analysis and averages, but the figures should not be treated as directly comparable with David’s Guide’s starting rates: the measures and source articles differ.
Rank #2
- Not redeemable at hotel locations or if you choose the Pay at Hotel option online.
- Redeemable online only
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
How to use these figures when planning a stay
The historical figures can identify properties that appeared in published high-price lists, but they do not tell you what a room will cost for a particular trip. A starting rate and an average nightly cost answer different questions, and neither is a quote for your dates.
