The VANYX is a German luxury off-road campervan built around a striking idea: put two double beds on an elevated sleeping level, leaving the lower floor free for daytime living. The roughly $1-million price tag belongs to a July 2024 report on a specific Luxury Edition, not the manufacturer’s current starting price: as of October 8, 2026, Smart Adventure lists the VANYX from €340,000 and the separate VANYX Core from €199,400.
What makes the VANYX a two-story campervan?
The 2024 Luxury Edition described by New Atlas was based on a MAN TGE 180 4×4. Its tall, purpose-built roof contains an upper sleeping level with two separate double beds. That arrangement leaves the ground-level living area available during the day and avoids turning the dinette into a bed every night. New Atlas reported that Smart Adventure planned to build 99 Luxury Edition examples; that was a plan reported in 2024, not confirmation that 99 vehicles were produced. New Atlas, July 18, 2024
The current manufacturer page identifies the base vehicle as a MAN TGE 3.180 and describes a VANYX configuration for up to four people. The current model and the 2024 Luxury Edition should not be assumed to be identical in equipment or price. VANYX Camper
How much does a VANYX cost now?
As of October 8, 2026, Smart Adventure’s English manufacturer pages list these starting prices. Prices can change, and the listed amounts do not by themselves establish the cost of a chosen configuration, delivery, or ownership.

The manufacturer says buyers purchase directly from the factory. A buyer comparing the starting prices with the 2024 Luxury Edition figure should first confirm which model, equipment, taxes, and configuration each quote covers.
What does the off-grid equipment promise—and what is not established?
Smart Adventure lists optional equipment maxima for the current VANYX, including up to 1,200 Ah of LiFePO4 battery capacity, up to 800 Wp of solar, and up to 700 L of fresh water. Diesel heating is also described. These are manufacturer-stated options and capacities, not evidence that every vehicle includes them or that a particular build will operate off-grid for a stated number of days. VANYX Camper

The 2024 article described a shower flow of 2.1 L/min and water-saving features. The available sources do not establish independently tested off-grid duration or water-recycling performance. They also do not establish fuel consumption or total cost of ownership. Treat capacity figures as configuration specifications, not as a guarantee of real-world range between hookups.
What are the practical trade-offs?
Height and route access
The elevated sleeping floor depends on an unusually tall roof. That can constrain access to height-restricted roads, garages, branches, and other overhead obstacles, and may complicate maneuvering on rough routes. The available material does not give a verified overall-height figure or independent off-road test results, so check the dimensions and route suitability of the specific build rather than infer them from the concept.

Living space and bathroom
The two-bed upper level preserves the lower floor for daytime use, but sleeping capacity does not automatically mean generous seating or a spacious bathroom. New Atlas criticized the lower dinette and wet-bath layout; that is the publication’s design assessment, not a measured comfort test. Prospective buyers should inspect the actual layout and judge whether the seating and combined bathroom-and-shower arrangement suit their routines.
How to assess a quote
Because the available specifications do not establish what every build includes, compare a written configuration rather than headline prices alone. Ask the factory to specify the following for the vehicle being quoted:

Separate manufacturer specifications from performance claims: a maximum battery or water capacity describes equipment, not how long a household can travel without replenishment.
