Tesla’s Australian deliveries fell 24.8% in calendar 2025, from 38,347 vehicles in 2024 to 28,856. That was a severe annual decline, driven by a steep drop in Model 3 deliveries while Model Y deliveries grew. The latest figures available here, for September 2026, show a different direction: Tesla deliveries were up 21.3% year over year that month. The evidence establishes the sales pattern, but not what caused the 2025 fall.
What happened to Tesla sales in Australia in 2025?
Electric Vehicle Council data reported by CarExpert show Tesla delivered 28,856 vehicles in Australia in 2025, down 24.8% from 38,347 in 2024. The model split explains how the brand total could fall even as one of its two main models grew:

Model Y’s increase was not enough to offset the Model 3’s loss. These are deliveries, not orders or a direct measure of consumer preference. CarExpert’s report of the EVC annual data provides the model figures.
Is Tesla still declining in Australia?
Not in the latest reported month available here. Carsales for Business, reporting FCAI VFACTS and EVC data, says Tesla delivered 5,654 vehicles in September 2026, up 21.3% from September 2025. Model Y deliveries were 4,476, up 14.0%. Model Y ranked third among September nameplates, behind the Ford Ranger and Toyota RAV4.

Year-to-date figures also show substantial Model Y volume: 35,930 deliveries through September 2026, compared with 5,775 Model 3 deliveries, according to The Driven’s compilation of FCAI VFACTS, EVC and company data. Those figures do not establish that Tesla has permanently recovered; they show growth in the latest month and a strong Model Y tally through September. Why the 2026 numbers need context
Monthly deliveries fluctuate
The Driven’s Model Y series varies sharply by month: 288 in January 2026, 2,791 in February, 2,818 in March, 822 in April, 5,605 in May, 8,072 in June, 4,644 in July, 6,414 in August and 4,476 in September. A single weak or strong month is not, by itself, proof of a lasting shift in demand.

The overall vehicle market was also strong in June
Australia recorded 140,058 new-vehicle deliveries in June 2026, up 9.9% year over year. Tesla delivered 8,670 that month, including 8,072 Model Ys; the Model Y was the country’s top-selling vehicle for the second month in a row, according to carsales for Business’ June market report. This helps describe the 2026 picture, but it does not explain Tesla’s 2025 decline.
Some EV figures combine brands
The EVC’s July 2026 release reports 4,921 combined Tesla and Polestar battery-electric vehicle sales in July, versus 1,147 in July 2025. Its combined calendar-year tally through July was 29,711, compared with 16,466. These are Tesla-and-Polestar totals, not Tesla-only figures. The EVC also says its monthly report covers participating brands and records vehicles when delivered, rather than when ordered. The EVC July report explains its coverage and measurement.

What the sales figures do—and do not—show
- They show deliveries. The EVC records sales at delivery, so an order count is not interchangeable with these totals.
- They show different trends by model. Model 3 and Model Y moved in opposite directions in 2025.
- They do not identify the cause. The cited sources do not establish why Tesla deliveries fell in 2025. Explanations such as competition, pricing, supply timing, model-cycle changes or brand perception would need separate evidence.
- They are not a complete market-share series. The EVC’s report includes participating brands, and the available figures do not provide a consistent full-year Tesla market-share comparison for 2026.
In the EVC’s July 2026 release, CEO Julie Delvecchio described the broader EV trend this way: “After a record end-of-financial-year month, we expected softer numbers in July. But the underlying trend remains clear: EV sales are well ahead of last year, consumer choice is expanding, and Australians are responding to lower running costs.” That is the Council CEO’s interpretation of the EV market, not proof of what caused Tesla’s Australian sales movements.
