How many Teslas were sold in the U.S. in 2025?
Kelley Blue Book (KBB), part of Cox Automotive, estimated 589,160 Tesla sales in the United States for all of 2025, down 7.0% from 2024. Tesla’s company disclosures report global deliveries rather than a U.S.-only quarterly sales tally. For example, Tesla reported more than 480,000 global vehicle deliveries in Q2 2026; that figure should not be read as U.S. sales or used to infer the U.S. share. Are Tesla sales going up or down?
On the full-year measure, estimated U.S. Tesla sales declined in 2025. But the available quarterly comparison shows a rebound in Q3: KBB/Cox estimated 179,525 U.S. Tesla sales, up 7.5% from Q3 2024. One stronger quarter does not overturn the full-year decline, and neither figure establishes a continuing 2026 U.S. trend.

Quarter-to-quarter comparisons can be affected by seasonality and timing. Comparing the same quarter across years helps, but Q3 2025 had an additional market-wide factor: buyers moved purchases forward ahead of the scheduled expiration of federal EV incentives at quarter-end.

The cited figures establish that estimated U.S. sales declined, but they do not isolate one cause. Price, incentives, model mix, and the broader market can shape demand; the available evidence does not quantify how much each factor changed Tesla’s U.S. unit sales.

Tesla’s 2025 Form 10-K provides company-wide financial context: automotive sales revenue fell $6.66 billion, or 9%, compared with 2024. Tesla attributed the decrease in part to an 8% decline in cash deliveries and a lower average selling price, which it linked to vehicle mix and customer incentives. Incentive timing also complicates the quarterly picture. Cox reported that U.S. EV sales reached an estimated 437,599 in Q3 2025, a record quarter in its reporting, with buyers moving purchases ahead of the scheduled federal incentive expiration. That is market-wide context; it does not prove that incentives caused Tesla’s particular quarterly result.

How did Tesla’s models and the wider EV market perform?
Cox’s Q3 2025 estimates placed Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3 at the top of U.S. EV model rankings, with more than 114,000 and 53,000 sales, respectively. These are Cox estimates, not figures Tesla reported. Cox characterized Tesla’s high-volume lineup as centered on those two models, alongside three lower-volume niche vehicles. The model rankings help explain why aggregate Tesla results can be heavily influenced by the performance of a relatively small number of vehicles.
The broader U.S. EV market matters because market share is a ratio: Tesla’s portion can decrease while its unit sales rise if competing EV sales grow more quickly. How do Tesla deliveries compare with U.S. sales?
They are different measures. Tesla’s quarterly delivery releases give a global company total; KBB/Cox estimates provide U.S. brand sales by market and period. Do not compare a global delivery figure directly with a U.S. estimate or treat it as a U.S. trend proxy.
Tesla also cautions against using deliveries as a stand-in for financial results.
