Tesla’s Cybercab has moved beyond its October 2024 unveiling: the company says production began at Gigafactory Texas in 2026, and its current FAQ describes limited rides in parts of Austin. Tesla has also published rider instructions, cabin details and dimensions. That is a substantial update, but it does not mean Cybercab is broadly available or offered for ordinary consumer purchase.
What is Tesla’s Cybercab?
Cybercab is Tesla’s purpose-built, two-seat electric vehicle designed for its Robotaxi fleet. At the October 2024 “We, Robot” event, Tesla introduced it as a vehicle designed around autonomy, without a steering wheel or pedals. Tesla’s Q3 2024 shareholder update also estimated 5.5 mi/kWh for the next-generation powertrain. That was a company estimate published in 2024, not a current range rating; Tesla’s reviewed rider guide and FAQ do not provide a current range figure.
The title’s “one year after” framing should not be read literally as a date calculation: the unveiling was in October 2024, and the current information here was checked on October 8, 2026, shortly before the second anniversary.
What changed since the unveiling?
| When | What Tesla reported |
|---|---|
| October 2024 | Tesla unveiled Cybercab as a vehicle designed for autonomy without a steering wheel or pedals, and estimated 5.5 mi/kWh for its next-generation powertrain. Tesla Q3 2024 update |
| Q2 2026 | Tesla said Cybercab production had begun at Gigafactory Texas. It also reported public-road engineering test drives of production vehicles during the quarter and employee rides on the factory campus beginning in July, describing these activities as precursors to fleet deployment. A production start does not establish mass-market production volume. Tesla Q2 2026 update |
| September 22, 2026 | Tesla published a North America Rider Guide with instructions for using the cabin controls and handling ride-related situations. Tesla North America Rider Guide |
| FAQ checked October 8, 2026 | Tesla’s support FAQ said Cybercab rides were available in limited areas of Austin, Texas, and provided rider eligibility, luggage and commercial-purchase inquiry details. Tesla Cybercab FAQ |
The clearest shift is from an unveiled vehicle and high-level efficiency estimate to reported production and practical rider information. Tesla’s statements establish what the company reports; they do not independently verify autonomous capability, safety performance or commercial scale.

Does the Cybercab have a steering wheel or pedals?
No. Tesla’s Rider Guide describes a cabin with two seats and no steering wheel, accelerator pedal or brake pedal. Tesla says the vehicle uses camera vision and sensors; that is the company’s description, not independent validation of the system’s safety or capabilities.
Cabin controls and emergency procedure
The touchscreen can be used to open and close the doors, start a ride, adjust the temperature and seats, and play media. Tesla’s guide also identifies a cabin camera that helps track occupancy and USB-C charging ports.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you ride in a Cybercab, and where?
Tesla’s FAQ says Cybercab rides are available in limited areas of Austin, Texas. That is narrower than the footprint of Tesla’s overall Robotaxi program. In its Q2 2026 update, Tesla listed Robotaxi operations or preparations in several other US metros, but those program-level statuses do not show that Cybercab vehicles are operating in those places.

|---|---|
| San Francisco Bay Area | Safety driver |
| Austin, Dallas and Houston | Ramping unsupervised |
| Miami, Orlando and Tampa | Ramping unsupervised |
| Phoenix and Las Vegas | Preparations underway |
Tesla says active driver supervision is required for the supervised category and that it “does not make the vehicle autonomous.” The update’s market list concerns the Robotaxi program generally, not Cybercab availability in each city. See Tesla’s Q2 2026 update for the program statuses and qualifications.
Who can ride, and how does pickup work?
Tesla says guests under 13 cannot ride in a Cybercab. Riders aged 13–17 must be accompanied by an adult. The FAQ says disabled riders may bring service animals, while non-service animals are not allowed.

Tesla says riders cannot initially choose between a Cybercab and a Model Y Robotaxi: vehicle assignment depends on availability and party size. Its FAQ describes this pickup process:
- Match the vehicle’s license plate with the one shown in the app.
- Enter when the door opens and buckle the seat belt.
- Tap “Start Ride” in the app.
Tesla says a vehicle waits seven minutes at pickup; after that, fees may apply or the ride may be canceled.
Can you buy a Tesla Cybercab?
Tesla’s FAQ provides an inquiry route for commercial-purpose Cybercab purchases, indicating that the vehicle is being presented as a fleet product. The reviewed official materials do not give a consumer order page, price or delivery schedule. A production start and a business inquiry form are not the same as general retail availability.
What Tesla has not specified
The reviewed materials do not establish a current EPA range, charging duration, consumer price, delivery timing or broad Cybercab service availability beyond the FAQ’s limited-area Austin statement. Tesla’s 2024 efficiency estimate cannot fill those gaps: without a battery-capacity figure and a validated basis, it cannot be converted into a defensible driving-range estimate.
