Some Cybertruck buyers reported delivery delays in March 2025 as Tesla addressed concerns about exterior trim. The issue later became an official safety recall: NHTSA campaign 25V-170 covers certain 2024–2025 Cybertrucks whose stainless-steel cant rail can detach. The recall record does not establish that Tesla confirmed a nationwide delivery halt or how long any reported hold lasted.
What happened to Cybertruck deliveries?
On March 13, 2025, Electrek reported buyer and delivery-agent accounts of a containment hold, and Road & Track reported that at least eight prospective owners described delays the following day. Those accounts document reported delivery experiences, not a confirmed companywide stop-sale or the total number of deliveries affected. The sources do not establish how long any hold lasted or its effect on sales.

Separately, NHTSA acknowledged Tesla’s recall notice on March 19, 2025. That official record establishes a safety defect and remedy; it does not establish the scope or duration of the earlier reported delivery delays.
What is the Cybertruck cantrail defect?
NHTSA campaign 25V-170 concerns the stainless-steel exterior cant rail, also called the cantrail. The agency states: “The cant rail, a stainless-steel exterior trim panel, can delaminate and detach from the vehicle.” If it detaches while driving, it can create a road hazard and increase crash risk. The recall covers certain 2024–2025 Cybertrucks, not necessarily every vehicle from those model years.

How to check whether your Cybertruck is recalled
- Find your vehicle identification number (VIN) in the vehicle documents or on the vehicle.
- Enter the VIN in Tesla’s recall lookup or the NHTSA recall search to check whether your specific vehicle is included.
- If the vehicle is affected, follow Tesla’s service instructions and arrange the recall repair.
How Tesla fixes the cantrail recall
Tesla’s remedy is to replace the cantrail assembly at no charge through Tesla service. Do not glue, tape, or attempt another do-it-yourself repair on a recalled panel; use the VIN result and Tesla’s instructions to arrange service.
