The reported figure of roughly $3 million combines separate New Jersey tax judgments against Teresa Giudice and her husband, Luis Ruelas. A March 2025 report put Giudice’s judgment at $303,889.20; the much larger reported amounts were against Ruelas. The available coverage described the cases as open then, but does not establish their status today.
How the reported $3 million total breaks down
The News-Times, citing New Jersey court records, reported three separate judgments or debts in March 2025: one against Giudice and two against Ruelas. The combined figure is an arithmetic total of those reported amounts, not a single joint judgment.
| Person | Reported amount | Timing in the March 25, 2025 report |
|---|---|---|
| Teresa Giudice | $303,889.20 | Judgment filed earlier in March 2025 |
| Luis Ruelas | $2,569,842.06 | Judgment reported in March 2025 |
| Luis Ruelas | $163,523.94 | Debt reported from December 2024 |
The two Ruelas amounts total $2,733,366.00; adding Giudice’s reported judgment produces $3,037,255.20. That calculation explains why coverage rounded the couple’s reported total to about $3 million. It does not verify a current balance or independently establish the underlying records. The News-Times’ March 25, 2025 report said all three cases were open at the time. A PEOPLE story republished by Blank Rome on April 1 likewise described a combined total of about $3 million, with Giudice at $303,889.20 and Ruelas at nearly $2.6 million, in addition to the December 2024 case. What is—and is not—known about the cases now
The cited reporting describes the cases’ status as of March 25, 2025. It does not establish whether any amount was later paid, challenged, settled, or otherwise resolved. Nor does it support saying that property was seized. The reported figures should therefore be understood as amounts reported in 2025, not as a confirmed balance owed in October 2026.

What a tax judgment or lien can mean
Tax attorney Mitchell Newmark, a former New Jersey Deputy Attorney General, offered general context in the April 2025 coverage: a lien may follow notice of a tax debt and an inadequate response, and collection may follow once a debt is final and remains unpaid. That explanation is not a finding that each reported case followed precisely that sequence.
Newmark put the general process this way: “If the debt goes final, either because you don’t challenge the assessment or you challenge it, but you lose in court and you don’t pay, then they can seek to collect, and that’s when you wind up with a tax lien.”

New York matrimonial lawyer Alan Feigenbaum also discussed possible civil or criminal consequences conditionally, in the event taxes are owed, an IRS determination is not challenged, and the taxpayer refuses to pay. His comments do not establish that Giudice or Ruelas faces criminal liability in connection with these reported New Jersey judgments.

The News-Times reported that Giudice and her then-husband, Joe Giudice, pleaded guilty in 2014 to fraud-related charges involving bankruptcy and loan applications, and that Teresa served 11 months in prison in 2015. That earlier federal case is separate from the later New Jersey tax judgments reported against Teresa Giudice and Luis Ruelas; it should not be treated as evidence about the status or outcome of those tax cases.
