Tencent’s TiMi Montreal game-development studio closed in February 2026, according to contemporaneous reporting. The closure was reported through posts by studio employees and corroborating coverage, not a formal public announcement from Tencent or TiMi. The studio’s unannounced game was never released; its title and what happened to the project remain unclear.
What happened to TiMi Montreal?
Game File reported on February 22, 2026, that Tencent had shut down TiMi Montreal. Its report cited a LinkedIn post by a studio programmer saying the studio had officially closed, along with posts from other people affiliated with the studio. Game File said Tencent and TiMi representatives did not comment when contacted. Game File’s report quoted the programmer’s now-deleted post: “I am genuinely heartbroken that the public will never get to experience what this team was capable of producing.”
Game Developer also covered the apparent closure on February 23, citing the employee post and Game File’s reporting. Its account described the studio as having been established around five years earlier; that is an approximate description, not an exact operating duration.
When did it close?
The reports place the closure in February 2026. TVA Nouvelles relayed Eurogamer’s reported date of February 20, but that date was not presented as a company-confirmed one. TVA Nouvelles’ report is the source for that attributed date.

Which Tencent studio closed—and which did not?
The closure concerned TiMi Montreal, a Montreal studio within Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group. It does not mean TiMi Studio Group as a whole closed. The studio was announced in July 2021 with the stated mission “to create AAA open world multi-platform games,” as recounted by Game File’s coverage of the studio’s closure.
What was TiMi Montreal developing?
Closure coverage described the team’s work as an unannounced, service-driven open-world game for PC and consoles. The reporting does not establish a title, release plan, or what happened to the project after the studio closed. Game Developer explicitly noted that the project’s status was unclear. The studio reportedly closed without releasing a game.

The reports reviewed did not include an official Tencent or TiMi explanation for the closure. They also did not establish a verified number of affected employees or details about severance or other support. Without a company statement or verified reporting on those points, claims about the rationale or employee arrangements should be treated as unconfirmed.
