Telenor Asia announced on 6 August 2025 that Telenor Pakistan’s board had appointed Fridtjof Rusten as CEO, effective 1 September 2025. Khurrum Ashfaque, whom Rusten succeeded, was set to become Chief Network Officer at True Corporation from 1 October 2025. Those appointments describe the 2025 transition—not the companies’ current leadership: Telenor Group later listed Rusten as CEO of Telenor Asia, while Associated Press of Pakistan reported that Awais Vohra became acting CEO of Telenor Pakistan after PTCL acquired the company.
What Telenor announced in August 2025
Telenor Asia’s 6 August 2025 announcement said Telenor Pakistan’s board had appointed Rusten CEO, with the appointment taking effect on 1 September. He succeeded Ashfaque, who was to move to True Corporation as Chief Network Officer on 1 October 2025.
The announcement described Rusten as having more than 23 years of work experience. He had served as Telenor Pakistan’s chief financial officer from 2020 to 2023 and was Chief Transformation Officer at True Corporation immediately before the CEO appointment. Telenor Asia framed his earlier Pakistan experience as relevant to leading the company again.

Telenor Pakistan board chair Marius Gigernes welcomed Rusten and pointed to his prior CFO service in Pakistan. Rusten said he was excited to return to Pakistan, while Ashfaque thanked Telenor Pakistan colleagues for the preceding two years. These were statements in the company’s appointment announcement, not independent assessments of company performance.

Who leads Telenor Pakistan now?
The August 2025 announcement should not be read as a current leadership update. Telenor Group’s Fridtjof Rusten profile records him as appointed CEO of Telenor Asia on 18 August 2026, and the group’s management roster lists him in that role.
Separately, Associated Press of Pakistan reported that Awais Vohra was appointed acting CEO of Telenor Pakistan after PTCL acquired the company. APP said the Competition Commission approved the acquisition on 1 October 2025 and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority approved it on 5 December 2025; its 31 December report described Telenor Pakistan as a PTCL subsidiary. The Vohra appointment is attributed to APP because the reviewed Telenor pages do not independently confirm it.

What Telenor said about Pakistan’s operation at the time
Telenor Asia’s August 2025 company overview described Telenor Pakistan as having approximately 43 million subscribers and as Pakistan’s third-largest mobile operator. Those are the company’s historical figures and characterization at the time of the announcement, not a current subscriber estimate or independently established market ranking.
