At TDX 2025, Salesforce announced Agentforce 2dx, a release aimed at agents that can act proactively from business events and workflows, and a free Developer Edition with Agentforce and Data Cloud enabled. The launch also covered tools for building agents with low-code or pro-code workflows, testing and tracing them, and extending them with partner-built components. Salesforce’s March 2025 materials listed 10GB of Data Cloud access and 150 LLM generations per hour for the new Developer Edition; those are release-era figures, not confirmed current limits.

What Agentforce 2dx is

Agentforce 2dx was announced in March 2025 as a new version of Salesforce’s platform for building AI agents. Its emphasis was on moving beyond agents that respond only when a person asks a question: Salesforce described agents that could also run proactively in the background, triggered by business events or workflows, and work with data systems, business logic and user interfaces.

That does not mean every agent automatically monitors every system or takes action without controls. The announcement described a set of ways to build and invoke agents; the actual behavior depends on how an organization configures its agent, data access and workflows.

What Salesforce announced at TDX 2025

Low-code and programmatic ways to build and invoke agents

Salesforce said Agentforce agents could be invoked through Flow, Apex and APIs. Its Agent API supports programmatic, headless interactions, while AI Assist in Agent Builder is intended to help users create and customize agents. That gives teams a low-code route through Salesforce’s builder as well as options to connect agent behavior to code or other software.

Agentforce DX for developers

Agentforce DX is the pro-code development toolkit, not another name for the Agentforce 2dx release. It adds Salesforce CLI workflows and integration with VS Code and Code Builder. Developers can work with agent metadata in source control and use tools to create, test and preview agents. Salesforce announced these pro-code tools as generally available on May 21, 2025.

Testing, inspection and supervision

The TDX announcements included Testing Center enhancements for test cases, plus DX Inspector and Interaction Explorer for inspecting metadata, tracing interactions and analyzing performance. These tools address different parts of development and oversight: tests help check expected behavior, while inspection and tracing can help developers understand how an agent or its configuration behaved. Salesforce’s announcement does not establish independent performance benchmarks.

Richer responses and business context

Agentforce Surfaces and Cards were presented as ways to deliver channel-specific responses and Lightning web components. Salesforce also announced Tableau Semantics to provide business context for analytics. These features broaden how agent experiences can be presented and how analytics can use organizational meaning; they are distinct from the underlying choice of low-code or pro-code build workflow.

How the free Salesforce Developer Edition fits in

The new Developer Edition is a free Salesforce environment for developers and teams to prototype AI agents and harmonize data. Salesforce said Agentforce and Data Cloud are enabled, and that the dedicated environment does not expire as long as it remains in use. It is intended for experimentation, not a promise that every production feature, capacity level or service condition is included without limits.

Salesforce’s March 2025 release materials listed 10GB of Data Cloud access and 150 LLM generations per hour. Treat those as the figures reported at launch: they do not establish the current allowance, and a reader setting up an org now should check Salesforce’s current terms and limits before planning around them.

Scratch orgs offer a different development option. They are disposable environments, and Salesforce said they also support Agentforce and Prompt Builder. A persistent Developer Edition is more suitable for ongoing experimentation; a scratch org is useful when a developer needs a temporary environment that can be recreated or discarded.

Which development option should you use?

Option Build style or purpose What the announcement established
Agent Builder Low-code configuration AI Assist helps create and customize agents; Salesforce also described Flow as an invocation option.
Agentforce DX Pro-code development Salesforce CLI, VS Code and Code Builder workflows; source-controlled agent metadata and tools to create, test and preview agents. Announced generally available May 21, 2025.
Developer Edition Persistent free environment for experimentation Agentforce and Data Cloud enabled; Salesforce said it does not expire while in use. March 2025 limits were 10GB Data Cloud access and 150 LLM generations per hour.
Scratch org Disposable development environment Salesforce said scratch orgs support Agentforce and Prompt Builder.

The options are not mutually exclusive: a team can use a Developer Edition or scratch org as its environment and choose builder-based or pro-code workflows for the work it is doing. The announcements do not provide a complete current paid pricing comparison or establish that a free development org is a production substitute.

What AgentExchange adds

AgentExchange is Salesforce’s marketplace and community for Agentforce-related components. Salesforce said it launched with more than 200 partners and hundreds of ready-made actions. The practical role is to extend Salesforce’s built-in tools with partner-built actions and templates that teams may be able to reuse, rather than build every integration or workflow component from scratch.

Those launch figures describe the initial 2025 marketplace announcement, not a current inventory. Availability and terms for any particular component depend on its listing and publisher. The announcement alone does not verify affiliate commissions, referral payments or other commercial terms.

When the features were announced

Date or timing Announcement
March 5–6, 2025 Salesforce announced Agentforce 2dx.
March 2025 Salesforce said the full Agentforce 2dx release would be generally available in April 2025, with some features arriving earlier. Agentforce Developer Edition and AgentExchange were announced as available immediately.
May 21, 2025 Salesforce announced Agentforce DX pro-code tools as generally available.

These dates describe Salesforce’s launch announcements and planned availability at that time; they do not confirm the current name, limits or availability of every feature. Later Agentforce releases may have changed those details, so verify them in Salesforce’s current product and release information before relying on them.

What the launch means for a team evaluating Salesforce

TDX 2025 brought together an execution model, development tools, a free experimentation environment and an extension marketplace. The key choice is not simply whether an agent can chat: it is whether a team needs a user-initiated response, an event- or workflow-triggered action, or both—and how it will build, test and supervise that behavior.

  • Start with Agent Builder if the work is mainly low-code configuration; use Agentforce DX when source control, CLI workflows or code-based development are central.
  • Use a persistent Developer Edition for ongoing experimentation or a scratch org for disposable development work.
  • Consider AgentExchange when a partner action or template fits the use case, but assess its listing and terms individually.
  • Do not treat the 2025 Developer Edition limits or release timetable as current guarantees; confirm current Salesforce documentation and org settings.
