TaxBuddy and ClearTax are not a simple price-for-price match. The first decision is whether you want to file your own return or pay for expert assistance; the next is whether the selected plan covers your income sources and the support you need. ClearTax explicitly lists free self-filing alongside paid assistance, while TaxBuddy lists assisted plans and describes self-service in its own comparison material. Plan prices and inclusions can change, so check the terms for your exact profile before paying.
TaxBuddy vs ClearTax at a glance

| Profile coverage shown on pricing pages | Categories include salary/property, capital gains, foreign income and NRI, and business or professional income. ClearTax pricing | The retrieved pricing-page excerpt lists salary/property and non-audit business or professional assisted plans. It does not establish matched coverage or a price for every complex profile. TaxBuddy pricing |
| How to compare support | Use the terms for the selected plan; general comparison claims do not establish that every support feature is included. ClearTax comparison | Ask for the chosen plan’s consultation, correction and post-filing terms in writing. TaxBuddy comparison |
| Independent head-to-head result | No independent comparative accuracy or outcome study is established by the available sources. The head-to-head pages are vendor-authored, not independent ratings. | |
Accordingly, there is no evidence-based universal winner here. A free DIY option may suit a straightforward return filed confidently by the taxpayer; expert help may be worth comparing when income is more involved or the taxpayer wants preparation or review. That does not mean every paid plan includes the same work.
Plan examples and prices shown on 8 October 2026
The figures below are snapshots of the providers’ official pages accessed on 8 October 2026, not guaranteed checkout quotes. ClearTax displayed prices plus taxes; TaxBuddy labeled its displayed prices exclusive of taxes. Discounts, eligibility and final totals can change. The plan descriptions also differ, so matching prices do not prove matching scope.

These are provider-page examples, not personalized tax advice or proof that a return qualifies. Tax residency, income types, transaction volume, return form, audit status, filing year and document condition can affect both eligibility and fee. For a complex return, ask each provider to confirm the applicable form, schedules, included document handling and full price before purchase. ClearTax pricing · TaxBuddy pricing

Which service may suit your filing situation?
Simple salary income and confidence filing yourself
Consider the DIY route before paying for assistance. ClearTax explicitly advertises free self-filing. TaxBuddy’s comparison material describes self-service, but confirm current availability and terms directly. Whichever service you use, review the completed return and schedules yourself before submission; importing or entering data does not replace that review. ClearTax pricing · TaxBuddy comparison
You want an expert to prepare or review the return
Compare an assisted plan for your actual income profile, the full fee including taxes, how you can ask questions, and what happens if a correction is needed. Do not infer the service level from a low headline price or a general comparison page. ClearTax pricing · TaxBuddy pricing

You have capital gains, foreign income, NRI status, business income or multiple properties
Get plan-specific confirmation before paying. Ask which return form and schedules the provider will handle, whether the plan covers your particular income and documents, and what extra fees apply. The retrieved plan pages give different levels of category detail, so the absence of a listed price is not evidence that a service cannot handle the return—and a category label alone does not establish that it will. What to verify before choosing an assisted plan
Support features are valuable only if they apply to the plan you are buying. Vendor-authored comparison pages describe features, but do not establish that each one is included across all tiers. Ask the provider to confirm the following in the plan terms or in writing:
- Whether the service is self-filing, expert review or end-to-end preparation and filing.
- How the expert can be contacted and whether consultation is included or charged separately.
- Whether corrections, a revised or updated return, or help with a defective-return notice are covered, and for what period.
- Whether notice handling is included, what kind of notice is covered, and whether representation or only guidance is offered.
- What documents and income sources are included, and what triggers an additional fee.
- The total amount at checkout, including taxes, and any conditions attached to discounts.
ClearTax and TaxBuddy publish their own head-to-head descriptions, but these are provider claims rather than independently verified comparative results. Treat claims about speed, ratings, customer counts, tax savings or support superiority accordingly; they do not establish which service will be more accurate for your return. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does automation make one more accurate?
ClearTax says its service can auto-import information from Form 16 and Form 26AS and provides guided assistance. That is a provider description of workflow, not independent evidence of accuracy. The retrieved TaxBuddy pricing-page material does not support a matched technical comparison, and no independent accuracy study comparing the two services is established here. Check imported information against your source documents and review the return before filing. ClearTax pricing

A practical decision checklist
- Choose the service level: Decide whether you want DIY control, expert review or someone to prepare the return. ClearTax lists free self-filing; verify TaxBuddy’s current self-service availability and terms directly.
- List your income profile: Include salary, properties, capital gains, foreign income or NRI status, and business or professional receipts. Don’t choose a plan based on a salary label if your return includes other work.
- Get a plan-specific quote: Confirm eligibility, inclusions, taxes and any extra charges for your documents and transactions.
- Check after-filing coverage: Confirm in writing what the plan covers for corrections, defective returns and notices, and how long support lasts.
- Review before submission: Check the return, income figures and schedules against your records, even when data is imported or an expert prepares the filing.
