Taraji P. Henson’s Highest-Grossing Films: What the $3 Billion Claim Means

The $3 billion-plus claim is a career-wide estimate, not the gross of one Taraji P. Henson film. Two compilations disagree, while The Numbers lists Minions: The Rise of Gru at $941,962,518 worldwide.

The “over $3 billion” figure is a cumulative estimate for box-office receipts across Taraji P. Henson’s filmography—not the gross of a single movie. The available career totals disagree: one compilation puts the sum at $3.01 billion, while another reports $3.6 billion. For an individual film, Minions: The Rise of Gru is the leader in the cited records, with a worldwide gross of $941,962,518.

What does the $3 billion figure refer to?

It refers to an estimated sum of box-office grosses for films in Henson’s filmography. It does not mean that one of her films earned more than $3 billion. These career-wide totals are compiler estimates, not an independently published statistical study or an audited industry total.

The two compilations surfaced here report different amounts. NetflixMovies.com gives a combined worldwide total of $3.6 billion. Its page says 31 of 41 films have a worldwide figure, one has a U.S.-only figure, seven never played in cinemas, and two have no figure found. What’s After the Movie reports $3.01 billion. Neither result states a publication date for its total or documents a shared method for deciding which films and figures to include, so the estimates cannot be reconciled from those pages alone.

Which individual films are among Henson’s biggest box-office performers?

The following figures are worldwide grosses, not domestic-only totals. The Numbers provides precise figures for the top two titles and identifies Henson’s roles; the next two amounts are rounded estimates attributed to NetflixMovies.com.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

The 2022 animated film is the top individual title in the cited compilations. The Numbers lists its worldwide gross as $941,962,518 and credits Henson as Belle Bottom. NetflixMovies.com rounds the figure to $940 million.

Ralph Breaks the Internet

The 2018 film ranks second in the cited NetflixMovies.com list. The Numbers lists a worldwide gross of $529,290,830 and identifies Henson as Yesss.

The Karate Kid and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

NetflixMovies.com places these 2010 and 2008 films third and fourth in its list, at rounded worldwide estimates of $359 million and $336 million, respectively. A separate estimate from Box Office Watch puts The Karate Kid at $351.8 million, illustrating why rounded figures should be tied to their source rather than treated as exact or definitive.

Why can career totals and film grosses differ?

A career sum depends on which films a compiler counts and which box-office records it can find. NetflixMovies.com itself reports incomplete or unavailable theatrical figures for some films in its 41-film count. Box-office listings may also be revised. The cited career pages do not explain their inclusion rules in enough detail to determine why their estimates differ by about $590 million.

  • Check the scope: A filmography total combines multiple films; an individual-film gross describes one title.
  • Check the territory: The figures in the table are worldwide estimates, not domestic grosses.
  • Check the source: A compiler’s rounded amount and a database’s more precise listing are not necessarily calculated or updated on the same basis.
