Accounting and GST: compare the workflow, not the label
“GST support” can refer to different things: tax calculation on transactions, return reports, preparing data for portal upload, e-invoicing, e-way bills, or filing directly. Confirm each workflow separately for the product version and plan you would buy.

Inventory: useful controls versus specialist stocktaking
Visual Catpro’s help material describes godown-wise stock, stock transfers and a godown-wise summary at Inventory -> Account -> Others -> Godown Wise Summary. It also documents valuation and parameter-based reports, with examples such as colour and style number. The help site includes legacy references, including Visual Catpro 2009, so have the vendor demonstrate the current version and confirm that these workflows remain supported. A named Tally hosting service may be the more natural candidate if staff already use Tally and the main goal is remote access or shared work across locations. Confirm that the hosted edition preserves the required workflows and that the provider’s backup, support and exit arrangements meet your needs.

Visual Catpro is worth evaluating if its documented accounting, billing, GST/VAT and godown workflows fit your business, and an installed/licensed workflow is acceptable. Have Catpro confirm current statutory features, deployment, licensing, support and export options before choosing it.

A multi-branch retailer or wholesaler
Test how branches transact, whether they share a live database or synchronize later, what happens during an internet outage, and how conflicting edits are handled. A claim of remote access is not enough to establish that branches can keep working offline or that users see current stock.
A business with weak connectivity
Ask for an outage demonstration. Establish whether users can continue entering sales locally, whether transactions queue for later synchronization, and what safeguards prevent duplicate or conflicting records. Do not assume that either a cloud-hosted service or installed software will behave as needed when the connection fails.
Calculate the three-year cost before choosing

- Can branches work during an internet outage? If so, how do transactions synchronize and conflicts get resolved?
- Which GST return types, e-invoice and e-way-bill workflows are supported in the quoted configuration?
- Can you demonstrate the required inventory details: godowns, transfers, batches, serials, valuation, barcode handling and physical stock adjustments?
- What import and export formats are supported for ledgers, items, opening balances and transaction history? Can you provide a sample export?
- Where is data stored, how frequently is it backed up, how long is it retained, and how can a restore be requested?
- What support hours, escalation route, uptime terms and update policy apply?
- What is the complete three-year cost, including implementation, migration, support, modules and cancellation or data-retrieval fees?

For a Tally-using business that needs remote access, a properly identified and vetted Tally hosting provider is a plausible fit. For a business whose needs match Catpro’s documented accounting, billing, GST/VAT and godown inventory workflows, Visual Catpro deserves a direct evaluation. The name “TJ Tally on Cloud” remains unresolved, and the available evidence does not justify a blanket winner or a claim that Visual Catpro is a specialist stocktaking product.
