Take-Two announced a company-wide plan in April 2024 that projected cutting about 5% of its workforce and canceling some development projects. A separate report in August 2025 said more than 80 employees were laid off at Cloud Chamber, the studio making the next BioShock. The two events are distinct, and the available information does not show that either GTA VI or BioShock was among the projects canceled in 2024.
What Take-Two announced in April 2024
Take-Two’s board approved a cost-reduction plan on April 16, 2024. In an SEC filing, the company projected a workforce reduction of approximately 5% and said it expected the plan to be largely complete by December 31, 2024. The filing estimated charges in three categories. These are company estimates, not final realized totals:

What happened at the BioShock studio in 2025
In August 2025, the Los Angeles Times reported that Cloud Chamber, the studio developing the next BioShock, cut more than 80 jobs in a reorganization—about one third of the studio, according to people familiar with the move. This was a later, studio-specific report, not part of the April 2024 company-wide plan. The reported headcount came from the newspaper’s sources; it was not an SEC-reported figure. 2K president David Ismailer said the studio would rework core aspects of the game and reduce the team to focus on that work and give development more time:

The statement describes a rework and longer development timeline; it does not say BioShock was canceled. Windows Central reproduced Ismailer’s statement

Are GTA VI or BioShock canceled or delayed?
GTA VI
Take-Two’s FY2026 results release lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. That is the publisher’s listed plan, not a guarantee of release. The 2024 filing does not name GTA VI as a canceled project, so the available evidence does not establish that the cost-reduction plan affected the game. Take-Two’s FY2026 results release
The next BioShock
The same Take-Two release lists the next BioShock iteration with its platform and release date marked TBA. Combined with Ismailer’s explanation of a rework and additional development time, that indicates the game remains in the publisher’s lineup without a stated release date. It does not establish a cancellation.

How to read the reported job numbers
The approximately 600 figure and the more-than-80 figure describe different events and come from different kinds of evidence: Reuters’ approximation of Take-Two’s 2024 company-wide plan and the Los Angeles Times’ 2025 report about Cloud Chamber. They should not be added into a definitive total. The 2024 filing projected a workforce reduction but did not report the final number of employees laid off; the later Cloud Chamber count was reported from unnamed sources.
