Zelnick also said backward compatibility could benefit Take-Two’s catalogue, but the comments did not confirm a broad slate of Take-Two games for Switch 2.
What did Take-Two’s CEO say about Switch 2?
GamingBolt reported on November 11, 2024, that GamesIndustry asked Zelnick about Nintendo’s next console. His answer was: “I never count Nintendo out.” The remark expressed confidence in Nintendo’s prospects; it was not an announcement about Take-Two’s plans for the console.

Why did Zelnick bring up backward compatibility?
Zelnick said backward compatibility was good for Take-Two’s catalogue, describing it as a way for older games to remain playable on a newer platform. He also acknowledged that games compete for players’ attention, including games published by the same company: “You’re always competing with everything, and you’re competing with yourself.”
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
His catalogue claim was: “Backward compatibility is good for our catalogue, and we think we have the highest selling catalogue per SKU in the business.” That is Zelnick’s characterization, not an independently demonstrated ranking. GamingBolt’s report supplies no sales figure, measurement period, methodology, or comparison set for the claim.
Which Take-Two games did the report connect to Nintendo?
The specific game named in the compatibility discussion was Civilization VII. The report said it was releasing for the original Nintendo Switch and would be playable on the successor through backward compatibility. That is distinct from a new Switch 2 release announcement.

GamingBolt also listed Borderlands 4, Mafia: The Old Country, and Grand Theft Auto 6 among Take-Two-label games planned for 2025. Their appearance in that release list does not establish that any was planned for Switch 2. The report confirmed no broader Take-Two lineup for the successor.

- Established in the report: Zelnick said he would not count Nintendo out and viewed backward compatibility as helpful to Take-Two’s catalogue.
- Named compatibility example: Civilization VII was described as playable on the successor through backward compatibility.
- Not established: Switch 2 plans for the other games mentioned, or an independently verified sales-per-SKU ranking for Take-Two.
The remarks are best read as a comment on Nintendo’s prospects and on the potential business value of carrying an existing game catalogue onto new hardware—not as a platform commitment or a forecast of specific game releases.
