The company did not publish a complete list of affected plans, so a plan name alone cannot confirm whether a specific account was included. Customers were notified, and the higher charges appeared on June or July 2024 bills.
What happened in the 2024 price increase?
On May 22, 2024, T-Mobile said the increase was $2 or $5 per line and that it was notifying the affected portion of customers. In a June 4, 2024 response to the Federal Communications Commission, the company said notifications began May 22 and that the increases would appear on June or July 2024 statements. The adjustment was a recurring monthly charge on affected lines, not a one-time fee.
T-Mobile did not publicly disclose the full list of affected plans. Ars Technica reported that customers on One, Magenta, Magenta Max, Magenta 55+, Magenta First Responder and Simple Choice plans were among those affected. Those are reported examples, not a definitive carrier-published list; not every customer with one of those plan names should assume their bill changed.
How to tell whether your account was affected
Public reporting cannot establish which individual accounts received an increase. Check the notice T-Mobile sent you and compare the relevant bill statements: the notice identifies the change for your account, while the statements show whether and when the monthly charge appeared.

- Compare the June and July 2024 statements with earlier bills, paying attention to each affected line rather than only the account total.
- Use your account’s plan details and notice—not the name of a plan listed in news coverage—to confirm your specific status.
Could customers opt out and keep the same plan?
Ars Technica reported that affected customers could call T-Mobile to change plans but could not decline the increase while remaining on the affected plan. T-Mobile’s FCC response described a limited reimbursement for qualifying customers who canceled: customers who activated on an eligible plan from January 5, 2017 through April 27, 2022 could request reimbursement of their final month’s qualifying service charge if their rate increased and they chose to cancel. That window and reimbursement do not establish eligibility for customers outside those terms.
Do not confuse the 2024 increase with T-Mobile’s 2026 plan changes
T-Mobile’s separate 2026 action involved retiring some older plans and moving affected customers to newer plans. The Mobile Report said the resulting adjustments could reach $6 per voice or home-internet line and $3 per connected-device line, based on customer notices and a company response filed with the Better Business Bureau. Those reported figures concern the 2026 transitions, not the 2024 $2-or-$5 increase.

What the current price guarantee does—and does not—mean
T-Mobile’s current Price Lock FAQ says qualifying accounts transitioned to eligible plans in 2026 are covered by its 5-Year Price Guarantee, subject to plan and enrollment qualifications. The FAQ excludes taxes and fees. It does not establish that every legacy account, discount or component of a bill is protected; check the terms for your plan and the notice sent to your account.
