T-Mobile Made a Real Gin and Called It “5Gin” Because of Course

T-Mobile’s Ultra Capacity 5Gin was a real 47% ABV limited-edition gin made with Heritage Distilling Company in 2021. Here’s what it cost, why it existed and what buyers can verify today.

Yes—T-Mobile really sold an alcoholic gin. Officially called Ultra Capacity 5Gin, it was a limited-edition 2021 collaboration with Washington-based Heritage Distilling Company, created to promote T-Mobile’s 5G network. It was not merely a cocktail name or a fictional promotional prop. The original launch price was $30 per bottle before shipping and taxes, but no verified official sales channel remains as of August 18, 2026.

What 5Gin was

T-Mobile announced Ultra Capacity 5Gin on June 23, 2021, alongside a nonalcoholic product called Extended Range 5Ginger Beer. The names were deliberate puns on T-Mobile’s network labels: “Ultra Capacity” described its faster mid-band 5G layer, while “Extended Range” referred to broader-coverage 5G.

T-Mobile described the gin as an “actual spirit.” The company commissioned and co-branded it with Heritage Distilling Company rather than entering the beverage business as a permanent producer. The announcement and product details are preserved in T-Mobile’s launch announcement.

Why T-Mobile launched a gin

The product was a publicity and brand-engagement stunt tied to two coverage milestones T-Mobile announced in June 2021: Extended Range 5G reaching 300 million people and Ultra Capacity 5G reaching 150 million, according to the company. T-Mobile framed the bottles as a literal way to “bottle” its “Un-carrier spirit,” matching its deliberately irreverent marketing style.

That context matters financially: this was a campaign-specific novelty release, not evidence that T-Mobile was building a recurring spirits revenue line or a permanent beverage subsidiary. The limited quantity, dedicated campaign website, and paired soft drink all point to a one-off marketing exercise.

What was in the bottle?

Distillery and base

Heritage Distilling used its Elk Rider Gin as the base. T-Mobile described a distinctive botanical blend and a “field-to-flask” distillation process. Heritage continues to document its gin range and historical media references on its trade page and press archive.

The available announcement does not provide a complete botanical list or a technical production sheet, so specific ingredients beyond the published description should not be inferred.

Strength and reported flavor

The gin was distilled from corn and bottled at 47% alcohol by volume, or 94 proof. Contemporary coverage described it as a traditional-style gin with approachable pine notes and a long citrus-pepper finish. Those tasting descriptors come from reporting, not an independent tasting panel; no documented award or rigorous comparative review establishes that it was objectively better or worse than other gins. Droid Life’s launch coverage reports the tasting description and proof.

The 5Ginger Beer companion

Jones Soda Co. made Extended Range 5Ginger Beer as a nonalcoholic counterpart. It was intended to work as a soft drink or as a mixer for the gin. T-Mobile promoted recipes including a “5G & T,” a Magenta Martini, and a nonalcoholic 5Ginger Mule through the campaign materials.

The original price was $10 for a six-pack before shipping and taxes. MediaPost reported that the ginger beer sold out quickly during the launch, while 5Gin remained available for at least part of that period; that is a historical observation, not evidence of current inventory. Jones’s current catalog is available at its beverage collection, but it does not establish that the limited-edition 5Ginger Beer is still sold.

How the 2021 launch worked

  1. Orders opened: T-Mobile scheduled sales for June 24, 2021, at noon Pacific Time through t-mobile5gin.com.
  2. Quantity limits: Contemporary reporting said customers were limited to one bottle of 5Gin and one six-pack of 5Ginger Beer per order or customer. That limit should be treated as launch-period reporting, not a permanent policy.
  3. Shipping: Alcohol availability varied by state because direct-to-consumer spirits sales depend on state licensing, fulfillment arrangements, and delivery rules. T-Mobile warned that 5Gin could not ship everywhere; the ginger beer was described as available across the contiguous United States.
  4. Limited supply: T-Mobile said quantities were limited, making the campaign unlike a normal, continuously replenished retail product.

Can you still buy 5Gin?

As of August 18, 2026, the original announcement remains useful documentation, but no verified official T-Mobile checkout page or current inventory was found. The safest description is that 5Gin is discontinued or no longer generally available. Heritage still operates and preserves references to the collaboration, but that does not show that the T-Mobile-branded bottle is currently produced or sold.

A bottle offered today would therefore most likely be a resale or collector-market item, not ordinary T-Mobile retail stock. No reliable production total, current price guide, or authorized resale channel has been established.

Checks before considering a resale bottle

  • Confirm that the label is the 2021 Ultra Capacity 5Gin bottle, not another gin using “5G” in its name.
  • Match the documented 47% ABV (94 proof), bottle presentation, seal, and branding.
  • Determine whether the seller is authorized or simply reselling a collectible; an auction listing is not T-Mobile or Heritage authorization.
  • Check whether shipment or possession complies with your state’s current alcohol rules.
  • Inspect for an intact seal, sound packaging, and storage conditions. Opened bottles, damaged labels, or questionable storage reduce both collectible and drinking value.
  • Do not treat a seller’s asking price as a verified market valuation; scarcity is documented, but a reliable current value is not.

Who might find it worthwhile?

T-Mobile and telecom collectors

The strongest case is memorabilia: the bottle ties a recognizable brand to the 2021 5G rollout and an unusually specific marketing moment.

Gin drinkers

The liquid came from an established distillery and used a conventional gin base, so the novelty is primarily the branding and origin story. Available descriptions suggest a recognizable pine-and-citrus style, but there is no robust independent review to justify a quality ranking.

Cocktail fans and gift buyers

The pairing with 5Ginger Beer makes the set historically interesting, although finding both original products in good condition may be difficult and expensive. Current Heritage spirits or Jones beverages can be alternatives, but they should not be represented as the original collaboration.

Bottom line on the “5Gin” story

Ultra Capacity 5Gin was genuine gin made with Heritage Distilling Company, not a joke about a cellular feature. T-Mobile used a real 47% ABV product, a matching Jones Soda mixer, and a short sales window to turn its 5G terminology into a memorable brand stunt. The $30 launch price belongs to June 2021; today, any bottle should be evaluated as an unverified secondary-market collectible rather than a normally available T-Mobile product.
