T-Mobile still lets customers use most credit cards for AutoPay, but those cards generally no longer qualify for the AutoPay discount. To keep the discount, switch the saved payment method to an eligible bank account or debit card. T-Mobile’s FAQ also lists its own Visa as eligible, though its official pages describe that exception inconsistently, so check the terms shown on your account before relying on it.
What changed with T-Mobile AutoPay
The change concerns the discount, not whether T-Mobile accepts a credit card for automatic payments. T-Mobile says: “You can still set up AutoPay with a credit card or a virtual wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay, but these payment methods are not eligible for the AutoPay discount.” T-Mobile’s AutoPay FAQ therefore distinguishes payment acceptance from discount eligibility.
For eligible accounts and plans, T-Mobile advertises a discount of $5 per eligible line, up to eight lines or $40 total. Eligibility requirements apply, and the amount shown on your account is the one to rely on. T-Mobile’s AutoPay page

How to keep the AutoPay discount
- Open AutoPay. In the T-Mobile app or your account online, go to AutoPay and edit or add the saved payment method.
- Select a qualifying method. Choose a bank account or debit card if preserving the discount is the goal. T-Mobile’s Pay by Bank flow uses bank authentication; its support page says you do not need to enter account and routing numbers manually for that method. T-Mobile payment options
- Choose the withdrawal date and submit. T-Mobile’s published enrollment flow asks you to select or add a payment method, choose a withdrawal date, and submit AutoPay enrollment. T-Mobile FAQ
- Check the next bill. T-Mobile says the discount follows a full billing cycle with AutoPay enabled using an eligible payment method. A change may not reduce the amount due immediately.
What happens if you pay with an ineligible method?
T-Mobile says using another payment method—even for part of a payment—makes the account ineligible for the discount on the next bill. Eligibility is assessed each billing cycle, so the discount can resume when you use an eligible method again. Do not assume a mid-cycle change will alter an already-issued bill. T-Mobile FAQ

Check that your plan and account qualify
A qualifying payment method alone does not guarantee a discount. T-Mobile lists an eligible plan, active AutoPay when the bill is processed, and timely payment of the prior bill among the requirements. Its support page says No Credit Check plans are not eligible for AutoPay. Since eligibility can depend on account and plan terms, check the AutoPay enrollment screen or contact T-Mobile if the expected discount is not displayed. T-Mobile payment options
