As of October 8, 2026, current prices and stock have not been established. Nintendo Switch 2 only works with microSD Express cards, so check compatibility before buying.
What the 25% Black Friday discount refers to
TechRadar reported that a Samsung P9 Express 512 GB card was 25% cheaper than its stated usual price during its 2025 Black Friday/Cyber Monday coverage. That is a historical sale report, not evidence of a current price or a discount that recurs each year. See TechRadar’s 2025 coverage.
No current October 2026 price, retailer stock, seller, or discount basis is established here. Before treating any listing as a deal, compare its live price with the retailer’s reference price and check who is selling it. Prices and availability can vary by country.
Which cards work with Nintendo Switch 2?
Nintendo Support says: “Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards.” Read Nintendo’s compatibility information. A standard microSD card used with the original Switch cannot store or load Switch 2 digital games or save data.

#1 Best Overall
- Nintendo Switch 2 uses a new standard of expandable memory card called microSD Express (sold separately). This kind of memory card is needed for faster access speeds and to ensure games will run smoothly.
- Please note: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards. If the microSD cards you have used for Nintendo Switch do not support microSD Express standards, you cannot use them with Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo supports microSD Express cards up to 2 TB. The first time you use an Express card, the console requires an internet system update. The card is sold separately. Nintendo’s Switch 2 FAQ explains compatibility and setup.
What the card stores—and what it does not
A microSD Express card can hold downloaded software, software update data, DLC, screenshots, and videos. Game save data remains in system memory: Nintendo Support states, “Game save data cannot be copied to a microSD Express card.”

- NEXT GEN GAMING: Works with Nintendo Switch 2.
- READY FOR TOMORROW. Ready for future products with a PCIe-NVMe interface; performs at UHS-I speeds with microSD UHS-I and UHS-II devices.
- EXPONENTIALLY FASTER PERFORMANCE. Up to 4.4 times faster transfer speeds than our fastest microSD UHS-I cards [9]. Transfer a 2-hour HD movie in less than 3.5 seconds [1]; save up to 2.8 minutes transferring 60 minutes of 4K UHD video [4] shot at 30 fps when paired with the SanDisk PRO-READER SD Express Dual Card (sold separately) [9]
- DURABILITY YOU CAN COUNT ON: Cards are waterproof, temperature-proof, humidity-proof, drop-proof, shock-proof, magnetic-proof, x-ray proof, and wear-out proof [5].
- HEAT MANAGEMENT REIMAGINED. SanDisk ThermAdapt helps keep devices from overheating with a specially designed enclosure and controller that uses dynamic adaptive thermal management.
Nintendo recommends using one card. Software stored across multiple microSD Express cards cannot later be combined onto a single card, so choose a capacity that suits your likely library before splitting storage between cards. Check Nintendo’s storage FAQ.
Capacities and published speed claims
SanDisk lists Switch 2 microSD Express cards in 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB capacities. Its 2026 product sheet gives maximum read speeds of up to 880 MB/s for those models; maximum write speeds are up to 650 MB/s for the 256 GB and 512 GB cards, and up to 800 MB/s for the 1 TB card. These are manufacturer specifications, and SanDisk cautions that performance can be lower depending on the host, interface, usage, and other conditions. See SanDisk’s product data sheet.

- Multiple Capacity Options – Available in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options to suit your storage needs. Note that actual usable storage may be slightly less due to system formatting and a portion reserved for card management functions, which is a standard industry practice to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Samsung’s 2025 data sheet for its 256 GB microSD Express card lists sequential read speeds of up to 800 MB/s over SD Express, based on internal testing; actual reads can vary by environment. It also specifies a three-year limited warranty. See Samsung Semiconductor’s data sheet.
The published figures are not a like-for-like independent test, and they do not establish that one card will load Switch 2 games faster in real use. Compare capacity, total price, seller, warranty terms for your region, and the manufacturer’s testing caveats rather than choosing by headline speed alone.

How to judge a live Black Friday listing
- Confirm the format: The product must explicitly be microSD Express. A regular microSD card is not a Switch 2 storage option.
- Check the exact capacity and model: Make sure the listing’s card matches the capacity you intend to buy.
- Compare the price fairly: Note the current total price and calculate price per GB if you are comparing capacities. Verify the stated reference price rather than assuming a displayed percentage represents a meaningful saving.
- Identify the seller: Check whether the retailer itself or a marketplace seller fulfills the order, and review the return terms.
- Read the warranty terms: Coverage and conditions can depend on the product and region.
- Keep the use case in mind: The card expands storage for software and media, not for game saves.
Because no current listing or price has been verified here, the 2025 25% figure should not be used as a current offer or as a prediction of this year’s discounts.
