Some bets were made shortly before the announcement and produced large reported profits. The timing warrants scrutiny, but public records do not identify the people behind the wallets or establish that they had inside information.
What the Polymarket records showed
Polymarket is a prediction-market platform where users can trade contracts tied to whether specified events occur. For the April 7 ceasefire contract, the Associated Press reported a cluster of substantial “Yes” bets made before Trump announced a two-week ceasefire in a Truth Social post at about 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time. AP’s account was based on public Polymarket blockchain data and Dune analysis; the figures below are AP-reported estimates, not independently verified here. Associated Press, April 8, 2026
- AP reported that at least 50 wallets placed substantial “Yes” bets before the announcement, and that these were the first bets made by those particular wallets.
- One wallet, created at about 10 a.m. Eastern Time that day, reportedly wagered roughly $72,000 at an average price of 8.8 cents and later cashed out for an estimated $200,000 profit.
- Another wallet, created the previous day, reportedly had a win of $125,500.
- A wallet created 12 minutes before Trump’s post reportedly placed $31,908 in “Yes” bets at 33.7 cents; AP estimated its profit at about $48,500.
“Wallet” is the meaningful unit in these reports—not “person.” The public count does not establish that 50 different people made the bets.
Why the timing raised questions—and what it does not prove
Large positions placed shortly before a consequential announcement can reasonably prompt questions about how the traders formed their views. But a successful trade and suspicious timing are not, by themselves, proof of insider trading, a leak, coordination, or any crime. AP noted that some traders might have expected Trump to back down from his threat; it also reported diplomatic efforts by Pakistan to obtain an extension of his deadline. Those possibilities do not reveal what motivated any particular wallet.

Rep. Blake Moore, reacting to AP’s reporting, said: “It’s highly unlikely that these are good-faith trades; it’s much more likely that these are insiders with access to information ahead of the public.” That is Moore’s assessment, not a finding. Who placed the bets?
The public blockchain can show activity associated with wallet addresses, including transactions and positions. It does not, on its own, reveal the real-world identity of the person controlling an address or what information that person had.

AP reported that Polymarket uses proxy smart-contract wallets, allowing one user to create multiple accounts. It said only Polymarket had internal information that could determine whether the wallets represented new users or existing users opening additional accounts. The contract dispute was a separate issue
AP reported that Polymarket marked the ceasefire contract “disputed” because Iran continued restrictions on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and missile attacks continued in the region. That dispute concerned whether the event satisfied the contract’s resolution conditions. It is separate from the question of who traded or what the traders knew. What lawmakers asked Polymarket to explain
Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s April 9 letter
On April 9, 2026, Sen. Richard Blumenthal said he had written to Polymarket founder and CEO Shayne Coplan seeking information about the platform’s response to suspicious bets involving national-security matters. He asked what investigations had been conducted, whether suspicious activity had been referred to authorities, and what user-identification records the platform maintained. House Oversight Committee’s May 22 request
A House Oversight Committee letter dated May 22, 2026, sought records concerning Polymarket’s identity checks; its methods for detecting, investigating, and reporting anomalous trading; Iran-related contracts; suspicious-activity referrals; and internal consideration of markets involving military action or armed conflict. A request for documents signals oversight interest; it does not show what the records contain or establish that investigators reached a conclusion. What Polymarket says about its controls
In its transparency materials, Polymarket says its rules prohibit insider trading, misuse of confidential information, and circumvention of geographic restrictions. It says International trades are recorded on a public blockchain and describes monitoring for coordinated wallets and referrals to law enforcement. These are the company’s descriptions of its policies and controls; they do not independently establish whether those controls detected, investigated, or resolved the specific April 7 trades. What remains unknown
- Who controlled the reported wallets, and whether multiple wallets belonged to the same person.
- What information the traders had, how they obtained it, and whether any information was confidential.
- Whether traders coordinated, breached a duty, or broke a law.
- What Polymarket’s internal records or any law-enforcement review may show about these specific trades.
The available reporting and official materials do not establish the bettors’ identities, access to classified information, or criminal conduct. No regulator or court finding about the identities or guilt of the ceasefire bettors is established in the cited material.
