The Supreme Court of India’s 2025 Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate application window is closed. The last date to apply was 7 February 2025 at 23:55. The recruitment was for an approximately 90-candidate panel for the 2025–26 assignment term; the 2025 notice is a past recruitment announcement, not an open application.
What the 2025 recruitment offered
The Supreme Court of India Recruitment Cell issued Advertisement No. F.21 (LC)/2025-SC (RC) on 10 January 2025. It invited applications to prepare a panel of approximately 90 Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates for the 2025–26 assignment term. The engagement was described as full-time and purely contractual, with initial consolidated remuneration of ₹80,000 per month. The advertisement stated that the engagement did not create a right to regular appointment or continued service.
2025 application dates and fee
Online registration opened on 14 January 2025 and closed on 7 February 2025 at 23:55. The application and test fee was ₹500, plus applicable bank charges, payable online through the designated payment gateway. The notice did not accept postal applications or other payment methods.
Because that deadline has passed, applicants cannot now submit or revise a form for this recruitment cycle. The notice also said submitted applications could not be withdrawn or modified and that fees already paid would not be refunded.

Who was eligible for the 2025 cycle
Candidates had to be between 20 and 32 years old as of 7 February 2025. They needed to have a Bachelor’s degree in Law, including an integrated law degree, from an institution established by law in India and recognized by the Bar Council of India for enrolment as an Advocate before taking up the assignment.
Students in the fifth year of a five-year integrated law course, or the third year of a three-year law course after graduation in another stream, could apply on the condition that they completed the qualifying law degree before joining. The notice also required research and analytical ability, writing skills, computer knowledge, and the ability to retrieve information through legal research platforms.

Selection process and exam date
The 2025 selection process had three stages:
- Part I: Multiple-choice questions testing understanding and application of law and comprehension. The test was to be conducted online.
- Part II: A subjective written examination assessing writing and analytical skills. The question paper was to be displayed on a computer screen, with answers written by hand in pen and paper.
- Part III: Interview.
The written examination was scheduled for 9 March 2025. The Supreme Court later published examination-related notices, including answer-key information, shortlisted-candidate details, scorecard information, interview-preference instructions, and a reserve-pool or wait-list notice. Those later notices confirm that the 2025 application and selection stages are part of a completed cycle.
2025 syllabus clarification
In a clarification dated 24 January 2025, the Supreme Court said the syllabus for the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Indian Evidence Act was the same as paragraph F of the January 2024 Scheme. That statement concerns the 2025 cycle; it should not be treated as a syllabus rule for every later recruitment.

Test cities and application requirements
The 2025 notice listed 23 test cities: Ahmedabad, Ambala, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Visakhapatnam. The Supreme Court reserved the option to increase or decrease the number of centres.
Applicants were instructed to upload a recent photograph and signature, check the application carefully, and keep the application number and a printout. These are historical instructions for candidates who applied in 2025, not steps that can reopen the closed form.

2025 pay is different from the later amended Scheme
The ₹80,000 monthly remuneration belongs to the 2025 advertisement. The Supreme Court’s currently published Scheme, titled “Scheme of Engaging Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates on Short-Term Contractual Assignment in the Supreme Court of India – January, 2024, as amended,” gives different figures: ₹1,00,000 per month and ₹1,10,000 per month for an approved extension after twelve months. Those are later Scheme terms and must not be read back into the 2025 offer.
The amended Scheme describes a short-term contractual assignment that generally begins when the Court reopens after summer vacation and concludes by the end of the following year’s summer vacation. An extension may be permitted with the relevant Judge’s satisfaction and approval. The Scheme states that the position is full-time, provides no other allowances or perquisites, and does not confer a right to regular appointment or continued engagement.

What the clerkship work involves
Under the amended Scheme, Law Clerks may prepare case summaries and synopses, note arguments during hearings, research issues to assist with draft judgments, and help prepare speeches, academic papers, and judgment headnotes when required. The work may take place at a Judge’s residential office and may include holidays. The Scheme also imposes confidentiality obligations and bars other assignments and legal practice during the engagement.
Later Scheme exam detail is not a 2025 notice substitute
The amended Scheme describes a multiple-choice Part I with 100 questions covering comprehension, application of law, and recent developments. It describes Part II as including a case brief, a draft research memo, and an analytical answer. These Scheme details provide context, but they do not establish that every administrative detail or syllabus item applied unchanged to the 2025 advertisement. For the 2025 cycle, use the cycle-specific recruitment notice and its January 2025 syllabus clarification.
How to check for a future Supreme Court law clerk notice
The 2025–26 recruitment is closed, and the subsequent 2026–27 advertisement also had a 7 February 2026 deadline. As of 8 October 2026, that deadline has passed as well. To check for a future opening, consult the Supreme Court of India’s official recruitment index and judicial-clerkship notices; live index pages can change, so rely on the latest dated advertisement for any new dates, eligibility rules, fee, pay, or exam format.
