If you subscribe to HBO Max or Paramount+, you do not need to do anything right now. Following the October 6, 2026 completion of Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, HBO Max’s official FAQ says there are no immediate changes to apps, content, subscriptions, or pricing. A single combined streaming service is planned for the future, but no launch date, new price, or account and watchlist transfer rules have been announced.
What is changing for HBO Max and Paramount+ subscribers right now?
Skydance announced that its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) was completed on October 6, 2026. Its announcement says the companies’ direct-to-consumer streaming products will unify into one service “over time,” but gives no timetable or consumer migration instructions. For the present, HBO Max’s official company FAQ says HBO Max and Paramount+ subscribers can continue using their services as before, with no immediate changes to apps, content, subscriptions, or pricing. It specifically says existing HBO Max subscribers do not need to take action right now.
Do I have to do anything as an existing HBO Max subscriber?
No. The current FAQ says no action is needed right now. Keep using your service and look for official updates. “No immediate changes” describes the current position; it is not a promise that the services, accounts, prices, or libraries will never change.

Will there be a price change or a new combined-service price?
The FAQ says there are no immediate price changes and promises advance notice of any future changes, but neither it nor Skydance’s acquisition announcement gives a price for a future unified service. There is no announced combined monthly rate to budget for yet.
As a separate, dated example—not a forecast for this merger—Disney and WBD launched a U.S. Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle on July 25, 2024. Its launch prices were $16.99 per month with ads and $29.99 per month without ads. That was a separately purchased bundle, not a transfer of existing subscriptions or a precedent that establishes the price or account rules for Skydance’s planned service. Will my watchlist, profiles, or viewing history move?
That has not been announced. The official FAQ and acquisition announcement do not specify whether watchlists, profiles, viewing history, or recommendations will transfer. The plan to unify services over time does not by itself confirm that any of this data will move automatically.
Will I need a new app or account?
The FAQ says there are no immediate app changes. The future app arrangement and whether subscribers will need a new account or any action during a transition have not been specified. Wait for official instructions rather than creating a new account or changing a subscription based on the merger announcement alone.

What should I check about billing?
First identify who charges you for the subscription: HBO Max or Paramount+ directly, or a third party such as an app store, TV provider, or channel marketplace. Check that provider’s account page and notices before changing or canceling a plan; future transfer rules by billing route have not been announced.
A past example shows why the billing route can matter, but does not predict the current merger’s policy. In its 2024 transition, SHOWTIME said its standalone streaming service would end on April 30, 2024, and some customers billed directly by SHOWTIME, Roku, or Apple were eligible for automatic transfer to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. Customers using certain other channels were directed to their provider; some subscribers who were not eligible for transfer were told to subscribe separately and cancel the old service to avoid paying twice. What has the company announced about the longer-term plan?
Skydance Chairman and CEO David Ellison said in the October 6, 2026 completion announcement: “At the same time, consumers can expect greater innovation from a company built with technology at its core, including significant improvements to its direct-to-consumer streaming products, which will unify into a single service over time.” This describes the company’s direction, not a dated launch or a promise about individual accounts.
Before any subscriber needs to choose between plans, the company would need to publish practical terms such as the total price and ad tier, what happens to existing subscriptions, app and device availability, library access by plan and region, and treatment of profiles, watchlists, viewing history, and recommendations. Those consumer details remain unannounced in the cited official materials.
