Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a current snapshot of stocks, use CNN’s Markets page to check US and global indexes, session-specific quotes, and market movers; use CNN Business Investing’s reporting for context on what may be driving a move. CNN’s displayed figures are not all updated on the same schedule, so check the page’s time and data disclosures before treating a quote as current.
What CNN’s Markets page shows
CNN’s Markets dashboard brings together several kinds of market information. It is useful for scanning a quote or seeing which assets are moving, but it is not by itself an explanation of why a price changed.
- US and global markets: index and market coverage across regions.
- Trading sessions: pre-market, market-open, and after-hours sections.
- Movers and lookup: stock and ETF movers, plus a company or ticker search field.
- Other assets and indicators: cryptocurrencies, currencies, commodities, bonds and rates, and an economic calendar.
Open the CNN Markets page to explore the dashboard. For reporting and analysis on stocks, bonds, economic forces, and market-moving events, see CNN Business Investing.
How current are CNN’s market figures?
CNN’s market-data disclosure says most stock quote data is provided by BATS. It says US market indices are shown in real time except the S&P 500, which refreshes every two minutes, and that all times are Eastern Time (ET). CNN also credits other providers for particular data and market information. These disclosures describe CNN’s displayed data; they are not a guarantee that every quote updates in real time.

Check the CNN Markets page for its current data and provider disclosures. When recording a figure, note the index or ticker, the displayed time in ET, and whether the page identifies a delay or a different refresh cadence.
Pre-market, regular trading, and after-hours are different snapshots
A pre-market quote, a regular-session price, and an after-hours figure refer to different trading periods. They should not be treated as interchangeable readings of the same moment. CNN provides separate session navigation, including an after-hours page.

Page features can change. An earlier version of CNN’s after-hours disclosure said fair value and implied open would return later in the year while unadjusted index-futures data continued to be provided. That was a temporary statement, not a standing feature description; consult the page itself for what is available now.
How to find out why a market moved
A dashboard can show that an index, stock, or other asset rose or fell, but a displayed price alone does not establish the cause. To understand a move, pair the quote with a dated report that identifies the event or evidence behind the explanation.

- Identify the instrument and session. Check whether you are looking at an index, an individual stock, or another asset, and whether the figure is pre-market, during regular trading, or after-hours.
- Note the timestamp and data caveat. CNN labels times ET and gives a distinct refresh cadence for the S&P 500. Avoid comparing figures from different sessions or times as though they were simultaneous.
- Look for a dated explanation. Read relevant reporting in CNN Business Investing and distinguish reported facts from interpretation. The timing of an article and the timing of a displayed quote may differ.
Is CNN’s market coverage useful for a quick check?
It can serve two related purposes: the Markets dashboard is for quote, session, and mover scanning; CNN Business Investing is for editorial reporting and analysis. Keep those roles separate. Use the dashboard to establish what it displays and when; use reporting with a clear publication or update time to assess possible causes.
