Major U.S. banks are scheduled to report third-quarter results on Tuesday, October 13, offering an early look at the earnings season. In a premarket report, Yahoo Finance described futures as mixed: Dow futures were up 0.5%, Nasdaq-100 futures were down 0.6%, and S&P 500 futures were below the flatline. Those figures are a snapshot from that report, not live quotes or a forecast of where indexes will finish.
What is the stock market doing today?
The available premarket snapshot points in different directions: Dow futures were higher, Nasdaq-100 futures lower, and S&P 500 futures below unchanged, according to Yahoo Finance. Futures can move before the opening bell, so these reported levels should not be read as the market’s final direction for the day.

When do bank earnings start, and which banks report today?
Yahoo Finance described the scheduled major-bank reports as the “unofficial start” of third-quarter earnings season. Investor-relations calendars list four major U.S. banks with earnings events on October 13. The scheduled release time and the time of a related call or webcast are not always the same.

How to read the bank results
Start with reported earnings and revenue, then assess what drove them. A single profit figure can obscure whether results came from recurring business activity, market conditions, or significant one-time items.

- Trading and investment banking: Look for detail on market-related revenue and deal activity. These businesses can respond differently to market conditions than consumer lending.
- Lending and deposits: Consider loan trends and deposit balances alongside the bank’s commentary about customer activity and funding.
- Credit quality: Watch for information about losses, delinquency trends, and reserves for potential loan losses.
- Management outlook: Guidance and commentary can help explain how executives view the business ahead, but distinguish their outlook from results already reported.
Compare each bank’s reported earnings and revenue with expectations only when the expectations are clearly sourced and comparable. No single consistent consensus set is established here. Also account for business mix: a trading-heavy result should not be compared mechanically with one driven more by consumer lending.

JPMorganChase reported second-quarter 2026 net income of $21.2 billion, or $7.70 per share, including significant items. That is historical context, not a Q3 result or estimate. In the same release, CEO Jamie Dimon described net income of $16.9 billion and return on tangible common equity (ROTCE) of 23% excluding gains related to Visa and certain equity investments. He attributed the quarter’s results to favorable conditions and market activity as well as the firm’s execution and investment. The $16.9 billion and 23% figures use a different qualification from the headline net-income figure; they should not be conflated. JPMorganChase second-quarter 2026 results
