Steve Singh, the co-founder of Concur, led an investor group that acquired Direct Travel in a deal announced April 2, 2024. The plan was to combine Direct Travel’s corporate travel management and service with technology intended to make business travel more connected—from booking and support to expense management and meetings. Singh’s “perfect trip” is that ambition, not a result the acquisition had already delivered.
Who acquired Direct Travel?
Direct Travel announced the acquisition on April 2, 2024. The investor group was led by Singh, who became the company’s executive chairman. Christal Bemont, formerly CEO of Talend and an SAP Concur executive, was named Direct Travel’s CEO. The announced investors also included Durable Capital Partners, Madrona Ventures, Top Tier Capital Partners, and Blackstone Credit & Insurance. Direct Travel said at the time that it served more than 4,500 mid-market and enterprise clients. Direct Travel’s announcement did not state a deal value; GeekWire later reported that financial terms were not disclosed. GeekWire reported the acquisition had closed after regulatory review.
What does “the perfect trip” mean?
Singh’s phrase describes a goal: a business traveler should be able to plan, book, get help during a trip, manage expenses, and coordinate meetings through a more seamless experience. It is broader than booking a flight or hotel because it concerns how travel systems and services work together across the trip.
In GeekWire’s interview, Singh said the technology architecture needed for that experience was not yet in place. He described hotel inventory and reservation systems as “too archaic” and not open. His comments frame the perfect trip as a work in progress—not evidence that Direct Travel had already solved those problems. Bemont called the acquisition “a huge step toward making that vision a reality,” likewise presenting it as progress toward a goal rather than a completed outcome.

How was Direct Travel supposed to build toward it?
The 2024 strategy paired Direct Travel’s corporate travel management and client service with announced technology partnerships. Direct Travel’s announcement and Business Wire’s account of the announcement identified these partners and intended roles:
| Partner | Role in the announced strategy | What the announcement establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Spotnana | Travel technology and infrastructure | Named as a technology partner; the announcement describes an intended integration, not proof that all capabilities were live. |
| Center | Card-first expense management | Named as an expense-management partner; the announcement does not establish that every traveler or client had access to an integrated service. |
| Troop | Group meetings and events | Named for meetings and events; the announcement does not show that the full trip experience was already connected. |
Direct Travel also described its own work using AI to improve client experience. Taken together, the announced components point to an effort to connect travel booking and service with expenses and group travel. They are strategic plans and partnerships; the announcement alone does not establish rollout, adoption, or performance results.

What changed after the 2024 acquisition?
On September 22, 2025, Direct Travel announced that it had acquired longtime partner ATPI. Direct Travel said the combination would generate more than $6 billion in annual travel volume and later said the combined organization served clients in more than 100 countries. These are company-reported scale figures, not independent performance findings.
The ATPI transaction broadened the story beyond the 2024 technology strategy: Direct Travel described a combination spanning global corporate and leisure travel, events, and specialized travel services. The figures should not be treated as interchangeable. Annual travel volume is not revenue, and the number of countries where clients are served is not an employee count. The 2025 expansion indicates greater claimed scale and reach; it does not by itself show that the “perfect trip” systems were fully integrated or that the experience had been achieved.
