What Stellar Repair for QuickBooks does
Stellar Repair for QuickBooks is a standalone desktop application—not a QuickBooks plug-in or cloud repair service. Stellar says it scans damaged company files, previews data it can read, and saves recovered information to a new QBW file. The product is not identified as an Intuit product or as endorsed by Intuit. Its features and workflow are described on Stellar’s product page.
A QBW file is the active QuickBooks Desktop company file. A QBB file is a backup that can be used to restore company data. Restoring a good, recent QBB is different from repairing a damaged QBW: the backup may be the simpler, safer route, though it may not include transactions entered since it was made. Stellar says its software can work with either file type and save the result as a new QBW.
Try Intuit’s repair options before paying
A company-file error does not by itself prove that the file is corrupt. Network paths, folder permissions, hosting settings, installation problems, and file-location issues can produce similar symptoms. For example, Intuit’s guidance for some error 6000 cases includes Tool Hub and File Doctor troubleshooting. Check whether a sample company file opens, confirm the file path and permissions, and see whether other users can access the file before treating the problem as data damage. - Protect the file. Stop editing it and make a copy of the QBW. Keep the original untouched. If the file is accessible, make a current backup as well.
- Run Rebuild Data. In QuickBooks Desktop, select File → Utilities → Rebuild Data. Follow the backup prompt and let the repair finish. QuickBooks may appear unresponsive; Intuit says that if the mouse still moves, the process may still be running.
- Run Verify Data. After Rebuild completes, select File → Utilities → Verify Data to check the file.
- Use Tool Hub or File Doctor when appropriate. Follow Intuit’s current troubleshooting directions for the specific error or network situation.
- Escalate before experimenting further. Intuit advises contacting support if Rebuild Data and File Doctor do not resolve the problem.

How to evaluate Stellar without risking the original
Stellar says its demo can scan a file and preview recoverable data, while saving the recovered file requires activating the full version. Treat that preview as a screening step: it can show that the program found readable data, but it does not prove the resulting books will be complete or accurate.

- Download the software from Stellar’s official site and work from a duplicate of the QBW or QBB, not the only copy.
- Launch Stellar Repair for QuickBooks, browse to the file or use Find, and select the QBW or QBB. Choose Next to scan or review it.
- Inspect the scan summary and preview. Check the company name and fiscal details; customer, vendor, and employee lists; transactions; and payroll data and paychecks if applicable. Look for plausible dates, amounts, account names, and transaction counts.
- Do not pay unless the preview shows enough of the specific information you need and Stellar confirms your QuickBooks version is supported.
- If you proceed, use Save and choose a new destination for the recovered QBW. Keep the damaged original and your untouched duplicate.
- Open the new file in the appropriate QuickBooks Desktop version, run Verify Data, and compare key reports with your last known-good records.
Stellar says the original file is not modified and the recovered data is saved as a new QBW. Preserving a separate original remains prudent, especially for accounting data.

The product page does not promise that every transaction, attachment, reconciliation, audit detail, memorized transaction, custom report, bank-feed item, or third-party integration will be preserved. Check features important to your business in the preview and validate them in the saved file.
Supported editions, countries, and versions
Stellar’s product page lists QuickBooks Pro, Premier, and Enterprise—including Silver, Gold, and Platinum editions—and regional editions for the US, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, and South Africa. It lists QuickBooks versions from 2007 through 2024. The page identifies the product as version 14.0.0.1, released in June 2024; that is the version and release date listed there, not evidence of a newer 2026 build.

The cited product information does not establish support for QuickBooks Desktop 2025 or 2026. If you use either, get written confirmation from Stellar about compatibility and the output file before purchasing or sending it a company file. The product is described as a desktop/laptop repair application, not a QuickBooks Online repair tool.
Price and license checks
Stellar’s purchase page displayed a one-year software-only license for £209 and a one-year license plus professional services for £295 when the cited page was reviewed. Those are pound-denominated prices, not confirmed US checkout prices; taxes, terms, and current availability should be checked on Stellar’s purchase page. For the services package, clarify what the service includes, turnaround, file-transfer method, data retention and deletion, number of recovery attempts, and post-recovery support before paying.

Safety, privacy, and recovery limits
QuickBooks files can contain payroll, bank, customer, vendor, and tax information. Stellar’s “100% Secure” wording is a marketing claim, not proof of a security audit, certification, or independently verified privacy guarantee. Download only from Stellar’s official domain, avoid unknown online repair sites, and review privacy and service terms before sending a file for professional recovery.
- No guaranteed outcome: Stellar’s feature list is not an independent success-rate study or a promise that every damaged file can be repaired.
- Preview is not validation: A visible list or transaction does not establish that all data, balances, or historical details are intact.
- Some errors are not corruption: Network, hosting, permissions, installation, and file-location problems call for diagnosis rather than file-repair software.
- Physical drive failure needs a different response: Repair software is not a substitute for disk imaging or hardware recovery. Stop using a failing drive and seek specialist advice.
- Protected or severely damaged files may need help: Encryption, passwords, truncation, or inaccessible media can prevent ordinary repair; keep credentials available and ask a qualified recovery provider about the case.
- Compatibility matters: Use the same or a compatible QuickBooks Desktop version to open the recovered file, and confirm support for regional editions and newer releases.
For a high-value file, legal or accounting chain-of-custody requirements, or a failed drive, weigh a specialist recovery provider or Intuit support against self-service software. Review confidentiality, handling, and retention terms before transferring financial records.

Validate the recovered company file
A file that opens is not necessarily a sound ledger. Before relying on it for reporting, payroll, taxes, or payments, check the accounting records that matter to your business:
