If the refund is still missing after seven days, Steam advises contacting your bank about pending refunds. Steam Support’s refund guidance does not promise that every debit-card refund will post within seven days.
How long does a Steam debit-card refund take?
For an approved refund, Steam says it can take up to seven days to appear in your account. Steam does not publish a separate posting deadline for debit cards, so the seven-day estimate is not a debit-card guarantee. Steam also warns that international payment methods may take longer. The support page does not display a publication date.
The timing starts after approval, not when you first submit the request. Steam sends a confirmation when you submit a refund request and another email when it has been processed. You can review the purchase and its status through Steam’s refund-request instructions.
Why might there be no refund credit?
The original transaction may have been cancelled
If Steam approves a request within 24 hours of purchase, it may cancel the original transaction rather than issue a separate refund. In many cases, the bank may take up to 30 days to confirm that Steam did not receive the funds, release the pending hold, and remove the charge. You may see the pending charge disappear without seeing a matching credit. This timing and explanation come from Steam’s refund guidance.

The refund may be going to Steam Wallet
When you request a refund, you can choose Steam Wallet or the original payment method if Steam offers that method for the purchase. Steam Wallet credit can take 24–48 hours to appear; that is a Wallet estimate, not a debit-card posting timeline. Check your Steam purchase history as well: Wallet funds might already have been used for another purchase. See How To Request A Refund.
The card transaction may have failed instead of being refunded
If a card purchase failed because the billing address was incorrect, that is different from an approved refund. Steam says it will not collect the funds for the failed transaction; the bank returns them according to its own policy. Check with your bank about the pending hold and its release process. What to check if your Steam refund is missing
- Check the refund status. In Steam Support, open the purchase and review the request or processed-refund status. Look for Steam’s processing confirmation email as well as its request-submission email.
- Confirm the destination. Check whether Steam sent the refund to the original payment method or to Steam Wallet. The original method is available only when Steam offers it for that purchase.
- Review Steam and your bank account. Look at your Steam purchase history and the bank account’s pending transactions. A cancelled transaction can appear as a hold being released, not as a new credit.
- After seven days, contact your bank. If more than seven days have passed since approval and neither a refund nor a released hold is visible, ask the bank specifically about pending refunds on your account. This is Steam’s stated next step.
Refund eligibility is separate from refund timing
Steam’s standard rule for game purchases is that you request the refund within 14 days of purchase and have played for less than two hours. Playtime includes online, offline, and shared-library playtime. You can still submit a request outside those conditions, but Steam says it will review it; that does not guarantee approval. Pre-orders
A pre-order can generally be refunded any time before release. If you bought it more than six months ago, the original payment method may no longer be available for the refund, though you can still request Steam Wallet credit.
