The reported amounts were 19,826 CZK for the 512GB model and about 22,305 CZK for the 2TB model, converted in contemporary coverage to roughly $950 and $1,070. Valve later announced U.S. prices of $1,049 to $1,428, depending on storage and whether the Steam Controller is included.
Was the Steam Machine price leak real?
It was a report about values associated with retailer listings, not confirmation of Valve’s pricing. In January 2026, Tom’s Guide and Tom’s Hardware reported that hidden values appeared on Czech retailer Smarty’s Steam Machine listings: 19,826 CZK for the 512GB configuration and approximately 22,305 CZK for the 2TB configuration. Coverage converted those amounts to roughly $950 and $1,070, while warning that the values might be placeholders or estimates. The visible Smarty pages did not display the prices. Tom’s Guide’s report and Tom’s Hardware’s report therefore described an unverified retailer listing, not Valve’s MSRP.
The dollar conversions were not U.S. retail prices, and the Czech listings cannot be treated as proof of Valve’s final pricing. One contemporary report also contained an inconsistent storage-capacity reference; Valve’s later official configurations were 512GB and 2TB.
How much does the Steam Machine cost in the U.S.?
Valve later announced four U.S. configurations. The announced prices differ by storage capacity and by whether the Steam Controller is bundled. The Steam Machine launched June 30, 2026.

| 512GB | Yes | $1,128 |

| 2TB | Yes | $1,428 |
These are Valve’s announced U.S. configuration prices, as reported by Game Informer and GameSpot. The January Czech retailer conversions and these U.S. prices are not like-for-like quotes: they come from different sources, currencies, and markets. The retailer figures did not predict an exact U.S. MSRP.
Why was Valve’s pricing uncertain?
In February 2026, Valve said shortages and rising prices for memory and storage had forced it to revisit its shipping schedule and pricing, particularly for Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Valve’s update, reproduced by Gematsu, said: “The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame).”

That statement explains why Valve said the schedule and pricing needed review at that point. It does not establish that component shortages alone determined every part of the eventual price.

Valve says the SSD and DDR5 SODIMM memory are accessible and upgradeable. Its stated SSD formats are NVMe 2230 or 2280, and the memory type is DDR5 SODIMM. Before buying an upgrade, check its physical dimensions, capacity, and compatibility with the machine; the listed formats do not verify any specific drive. Details appear in Valve’s update reproduced by Gematsu.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What does Valve say about gaming performance?
Valve states: “In our testing the majority of Steam titles play great at 4K resolution / 60 frames per second with FSR on Steam Machine.” The company also cautions that some games need more upscaling, and that a lower frame rate with a 1080p internal resolution may be preferable. This is Valve’s own performance statement, not an independent benchmark. Gematsu reproduces the statement and qualification.
