PC Guide reported that the most popular answer in its Steam Machine price poll was $600–$699, selected by just under 30% of respondents. The result describes that poll’s participants—not what gamers generally will pay, what the console-like mini-PC should cost, or how well it will sell.
What did the Steam Machine price poll find?
PC Guide’s article asks, “What is the maximum price you would you pay for Valve’s Steam Machine?” It reports that, after nearly 700 votes, just under 30% of respondents chose $600–$699. The article also says 70% selected a price in the $500–$700 region. Those are PC Guide’s reported results, not independently verified estimates of market-wide willingness to pay.
The poll displayed six answer bands:
- Less than $400
- $400–$499
- $500–$599
- $600–$699
- $700–$799
- More than $800
PC Guide’s article is dated December 15, 2025. The page accessed on October 8, 2026, displayed “1652” above the embedded poll, but did not explain what that figure represents or reconcile it with the article’s “nearly 700 votes” description. It would be misleading to use the widget number to recalculate the reported percentages or present it as a confirmed current vote total. Read PC Guide’s poll article.
How should you interpret the result?
The leading $600–$699 band is a snapshot of responses to an opt-in reader poll. PC Guide does not document how participants were recruited, whether responses were weighted, or who respondents were. It also provides no breakdown by location, income, existing gaming hardware, or intended Steam Machine model.
#1 Best Overall
- 1TB NVMe SSD
- 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass, 7.4" Diagonal display size up to 90Hz refresh rate
- Wi-Fi 6E
- 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)
- Carrying case with removable liner
That means the result can show what respondents to this poll selected, but it cannot establish what gamers overall are willing to pay, predict sales, or serve as an independent valuation of the hardware. The broad bands also do not reveal how answers were distributed within each range.
Does the poll tell you the Steam Machine’s price?
No. A willingness-to-pay response is not a manufacturer’s price announcement or a retailer’s offer. PC Guide described the Steam Machine as a console-like mini-PC and said Valve had not announced a price when the article was written. That is a statement about the situation described in the December 2025 article, not confirmation of today’s price or retail status.

The poll alone cannot tell buyers whether a particular price is fair or whether a current listing is genuine. Any comparison with an actual selling price requires a current, verifiable manufacturer or retailer source and confirmation that the listing is for the intended product.
