You can apply today to online programs that review applications on a rolling basis, but “rolling” does not mean you can start whenever you want. Each school sets its own term dates, application cutoffs and document requirements. These 10 official-page examples are starting points—not a ranking or a guarantee of admission. Confirm that the exact degree is fully online and accepting applications before you apply.
What rolling admissions means for starting online college
Rolling admissions generally means applications are reviewed as they arrive or decisions are issued on a rolling basis. A program may still have fixed start dates, a final application deadline or a recommended lead time for transcripts and other materials. For example, the University of Oklahoma Online asks applicants to apply 14 days before their intended start, while Old Dominion University’s ODUGlobal accepts undergraduate applications until one week before class. California Baptist University encourages applicants to finish at least four weeks before the session.
Policies also vary by degree and student type. A university-wide online page may not apply to every major, undergraduate or graduate applicant, or transfer student. Check the admissions page for the specific program you want.

How to choose a program without missing a deadline
Use the exact degree and next start date—not the school’s general “online” label—as the basis for comparison. Before deciding, check:
- Modality and program scope: Confirm the desired major and degree level are fully online, and that rolling admissions applies to your applicant type.
- Deadline and start date: Note the application cutoff, the class or cohort start, and any recommended lead time.
- Application materials: Find out when transcripts, recommendations, résumés or program-specific documents must arrive. A rolling review cannot proceed on missing materials.
- Transfer eligibility: Ask how prior coursework will be evaluated, how many credits may transfer, and how many credits remain. Requirements differ by program and prior institution.
- Costs and aid timing: Compare tuition, fees and any residency rules using the program’s current information. Check financial-aid and scholarship dates separately from admission deadlines; ODUGlobal explicitly notes that aid deadlines may differ.
- Program commitments: Verify any prerequisites, synchronous attendance, clinical work or in-person activity directly with the department. Do not assume every online program has the same requirements.
The admissions pages cited here do not establish comparable tuition totals, accreditation status for every named program, common-basis outcomes, or residency and clinical requirements across all 10 options. They should not be used to rank the schools on those measures.

- Choose the exact online degree and confirm the program is currently accepting applications.
- Identify the next available start and its application deadline; work backward to allow time for transcripts and any supplementary documents.
- Ask admissions whether rolling review applies to your situation, such as first-year, transfer, degree-completion, undergraduate, graduate, domestic or international status.
- Confirm transfer-credit rules, minimum prior credits, GPA expectations and program prerequisites.
- Check financial-aid and scholarship deadlines independently.
- If a priority date has passed, contact the school to ask whether applications are still being considered. A priority date is not necessarily the final closing date.
For example, Simmons’ online degree-completion route requires at least 17 prior college credits; it is not a first-year pathway. AUM says transfer-credit treatment varies by program and prior institution, so request an evaluation rather than assuming how many credits will count.
