Green is the entry level; earning 500 Stars in a year qualifies members for Gold, and 2,500 Stars in a year qualifies them for Reserve. Higher levels earn Stars faster, extend the birthday-reward window and protect Stars from expiration while the member maintains that status. Reserve also adds a personalized card, shop access and curated coffee experiences. Your app account and Starbucks’ current terms determine your status and eligibility.

Starbucks announced the earning rates and benefits when the redesigned U.S. program launched on March 10, 2026. Qualification, status maintenance and redemption are governed by the current Starbucks Rewards Terms of Use; Starbucks says it may change levels, benefits, rewards or the Stars required. Review your account for the rules that apply to you.
What members get at every level
Monthly customization and offers
Program materials list a monthly Free Mod Monday customization, personalized offers and early access across the levels. Starbucks describes Mod Monday as one customization per month, worth up to $2.25 before tax, at participating stores. It cannot be combined with Rewards or other offers, discounts or promotions. Bonus Stars for card reloads
The current Rewards page says a digital reload of $30 or more earns 10 Bonus Stars, while a reload of $50 or more earns 25 Bonus Stars. The maximum is 25 Bonus Stars per transaction. These are reload bonuses, not the regular Stars-per-dollar rate for purchases.

Double Stars with a personal cup
At participating stores, a transaction using a clean personal cup earns double Stars. Starbucks does not establish that every cup or location qualifies, so check with the store before relying on the bonus.
How Star expiration works
Green: expiration is usually six months
Green Stars ordinarily expire six months after they are earned. Starbucks says a Green member may extend expiring Stars by one month by completing an eligible activity during the calendar month before expiration. Examples include making a qualifying purchase, redeeming a Reward or digitally reloading $30 or more. Not every transaction qualifies: the Rewards page excludes Starbucks Card purchases, alcohol and delivery services from the qualifying-purchase route for extending Green Stars. Check the account’s expiration dates and terms; a qualifying action should not be assumed to reset every Star’s clock.

Gold and Reserve: protection depends on keeping status
Stars do not expire while a member maintains Gold or Reserve status. That protection is tied to the relevant level; it is not a promise that Stars are permanently protected after a status change.
What Reserve status adds
Personalized Reserve Card
Starbucks says eligible Reserve members receive an email invitation to order a free personalized physical Reserve Card. The member provides a mailing address for the one-time card. It works like another Starbucks Card: it can be loaded with funds and used in stores or in the app.

Member shop and coffee experiences
Reserve members get access to a merchandise shop with items such as cups and tumblers, apparel and Starbucks Reserve whole-bean coffee, as well as curated Global Coffee Experiences. In its March 10, 2026 launch announcement, Starbucks described the first experience as a fall 2026 trip for 10 Reserve members and their guests to Tokyo, including a visit to Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo and cultural activities. This is a limited experience, not a guaranteed selection or general travel benefit; Starbucks said it would share application details with Reserve members.

Starbucks publishes 500 Stars in a year for Gold and 2,500 Stars in a year for Reserve. Its terms describe qualification and maintenance using 12-month periods and distinguish the Level Star Balance from Stars available to redeem. The thresholds are not a substitute for the status and progress shown in your account.

Some members started the redesigned program at Gold based on their 2025 membership behavior, according to Starbucks’ FAQ. Members could also achieve Gold in 2026 by earning 500 or more Stars. Check your level and progress in the Starbucks app or email; do not infer current status from a lifetime Star total or an old card.
The former Gold Card was retired in 2019. Having one does not itself establish current Gold status. Starbucks determines current status under the redesigned program, and its terms reserve the right to change program requirements.

Why the program matters to Starbucks
In its January 29, 2026 announcement, Starbucks reported 35.5 million active U.S. members. It also said Rewards represented nearly 60% of U.S. company-operated revenue in fiscal 2025, or more than $13 billion in spend. Those are company-reported figures, not independent measurements. Starbucks global chief brand officer Tressie Lieberman said the redesign aimed to offer “faster, more meaningful benefits” and described Rewards as a way to create connection.
