It ran from 5:00 PM on 9 December 2024 to 11:59 PM on 13 December 2024, and candidates who missed it were not given another opportunity under the notice. This is a historical update, not an open form announcement.
Who was required to submit preferences
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) advised all candidates who appeared in Paper-II of the Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical & Electrical) Examination, 2024 to submit their preferences for posts and organisations. The notice described submission as mandatory for those candidates. It was not an instruction for candidates in other SSC JE cycles.
SSC’s official notice dated 6 December 2024 set out the procedure and consequences. The window dates were also reported by Scroll on 9 December 2024.

Where candidates submitted preferences
During the window, candidates were directed to sign in to “CANDIDATE LOGIN” on ssc.gov.in and use the option-cum-preference facility under “My Application.” SSC said a confirmation email would be sent to the candidate’s registered email after submission. Physical submissions were not accepted.
The 2024 form is no longer available through that expired window. The official notice does not establish a currently working direct form link, so an old “direct link” should not be treated as a way to submit preferences now.
Could candidates change their choices?
Candidates could revise their preferences only while the announced window was open. The last submitted preference set was final. Because the window has expired, the 2024 notice provides no current route to change or newly submit those preferences.
What happened if a candidate missed the deadline
SSC stated that candidates who failed to exercise their option-cum-preference during the period would receive no further opportunity and would not be considered for inclusion in the final merit list or final selection. The notice’s consequence applied to the 2024 cycle.

Additional restriction for PwBD candidates
Persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) were instructed to select only posts identified as suitable for their disabilities, as described in paragraph 5.1 of the examination notice. SSC said allocation would follow “merit-cum-preference of posts.” It also warned that the user organisation would cancel the candidature of a PwBD candidate allocated a post not identified as suitable for that disability.

SSC issued a separate notice dated 10 June 2026 for the Junior Engineer Examination 2025, with a different preference window from 10 to 14 June 2026. That is a later examination cycle, not an extension or reopening of the 2024 facility. See the official notice for the JE 2025 cycle for its own instructions.
