Square Go gives eligible U.S. beauty and personal-care businesses another way to be discovered and booked: customers can search for local providers, view services and available times, and manage appointments in an iOS app. It is a free marketplace profile connected to Square Appointments—not a replacement calendar, a complete payments app, or a guarantee of new customers.
What Square Go does
Square Go is Square’s consumer-facing marketplace for finding and booking beauty and personal-care services. Square Appointments remains the system behind it: the marketplace profile draws on a business’s services, prices, staff, and calendar availability, and bookings feed into the seller’s existing Square workflow. Square announced Square Go on August 8, 2023. Square Go product overview · Square’s launch announcement
Customers can search by service, location, and availability, compare provider profiles, and review business information, photos, staff, services, prices, and ratings. They can book, receive appointment updates, and manage, cancel, reschedule, or rebook appointments. Square says recommendations can reflect prior booking patterns or visits by similar customers; it does not publish enough detail to establish how listings are ranked or how much visibility a particular profile will receive.
How the customer journey changes
Discovery without already knowing the business
A customer looking for a nearby service can search the marketplace rather than first finding a salon or provider through a referral or social-media account. This creates another route to a business, but appearing in a marketplace does not guarantee that customers will see or book the listing.

Booking without a phone call
Customers can see times drawn from the business’s Square calendar and book when it suits them, including outside the business’s staffed hours. That can cut down on calls and messages needed to find an open slot, provided the underlying calendar and service settings are accurate.
Appointment management and repeat visits
Customers can manage appointments in the app and use their booking history to make a repeat visit easier. Square also describes reminders and rebooking prompts. Verified ratings and reviews from completed appointments may appear on a business profile, according to Square’s product overview.
What businesses may gain—and what the figures show
Square Go is most relevant as a discovery and rebooking channel, rather than simply another calendar. An eligible business gets a marketplace profile without a separate Square Go subscription, while keeping its existing appointment workflow. Photos, service descriptions, prices, staff information, availability, and reviews help customers assess whether to book. The listing also places the business alongside other providers, so profile quality and schedule availability matter; Square does not promise a particular ranking or volume of bookings.

Square publishes favorable no-show and rebooking comparisons, but the percentages on its launch announcement and current product page differ. Treat them as separate Square-reported claims, not as one independently verified result:
| Source and timing | Rebooking claim | No-show claim | Other context stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Square launch announcement, August 8, 2023 | 23% higher rebooking rate among Square Go users | 55% decrease among Square Go users | Square also said 30% of consumers rebooked after an in-app suggestion. The announcement cited more than 250,000 beauty and personal-care professionals in its network, more than 2 million self-care services, roughly 10 million consumers booking through Square Appointments in June 2023, and 83% of Square Appointments bookings being made on mobile. |
| Square’s current Square Go product page | 38% higher rebook rates | 21% lower no-show rates | The page cites more than 250,000 beauty and personal-care professionals and more than 300,000 clients looking for new services monthly. |
Square’s cited materials do not explain why the percentages differ or provide enough detail here to reconcile the cohorts, definitions, or measurement periods. These are vendor claims, not a promise that an individual business will see the same results.
Who can use Square Go, and how to set up a profile
Square Support describes eligibility for U.S.-based businesses in beauty and personal care, including salons, barbershops, nail salons, med spas, massage businesses, tattoo studios, and piercing businesses. The business must have online booking enabled; Square Support also says it must have had at least one client booking in the previous 30 days. That recent-booking condition may matter to a new business that otherwise meets the category criteria. See Square’s Square Go support instructions for the current requirements.

- Get your money as soon as the next business day.
- Get set up quickly with no long-term commitments. Download the Square Point of Sale app for free, create an account, and start taking payments anywhere.
- Run your business all in one place with the free Square Point of Sale app. Track your sales, manage inventory, accept tips, send receipts digitally, and more.
- Works with Apple devices with a Lightning connector.
- Confirm the prerequisites. Use an eligible U.S. business category, enable online booking, and check that the location has had a client booking within the previous 30 days.
- Open the channel settings. In Square Dashboard, go to Appointments → Online Booking → Channels → Square Go.
- Review the generated profile. Square may already have created a profile when online booking is enabled. Add or correct business details, photos, service names and descriptions, staff profiles, and location information.
- Check the booking setup. Confirm services, prices, assigned staff, hours, and calendar availability in Square Appointments. The profile reflects that underlying setup rather than maintaining a separate Square Go catalog or calendar.
- Inspect the customer view. Download Square Go on an iOS device and review what a customer sees. Square Support says profile changes are managed in the Appointments dashboard and appear in the app.
Bookings still depend on your Square Appointments settings
When a customer books through Square Go, the appointment synchronizes with the existing Square Appointments workflow. Before exposing services to marketplace customers, check the settings that determine whether a time is actually bookable:
- Staff assignment and availability
- Service duration, processing time, and cleanup time
- Location and resource allocation
- Cancellation and no-show policies
- Deposit or prepayment settings
- Which services should be visible for online booking
If a service is missing or a price is wrong, update the underlying Square Appointments service rather than looking for a separate Square Go catalog. If a service appears unavailable despite open business hours, check staff assignment, duration, processing time, location, resources, and existing appointments. Square describes resource allocation and processing-time settings among its beauty-business capabilities.

Limitations that affect the decision
U.S. businesses and iOS customers only
Square lists Square Go for U.S. businesses, and its consumer app is currently iOS-only. Square Support says an Android app is not yet available. A business with many Android-using customers should keep its ordinary online booking page and other booking links available rather than relying only on the marketplace. Square describes online booking and social booking options for its broader product on the Square Appointments page.

- Pay one transparent rate per swipe for Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.
- Works in conjunction with most downloadable Square point-of-sale apps on your device. Customers can pay, tip and sign directly on your device. Track payments in cash, gift cards and more. Also lets you send receipts via e-mail or text message, makes it easy to apply discounts, keeps a data and sales history log and more.
- Accepts magstripe credit card payments, including those from Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express (fees apply).
- App sends deposits to your bank account within 1 to 2 business days, or enjoy instant deposits (fees apply).
No payments inside Square Go
Square Go currently does not process payments in the consumer app. Customers can use it to discover and schedule, but payment takes place through the business’s existing Square process or at the appointment, depending on its settings. Square says payment functionality may be added in the future; the current limitation is documented on its product page and support page.
Free marketplace does not mean free business software
Square describes the Square Go profile as free for eligible businesses. The business still relies on Square Appointments and may have costs for a paid Appointments tier, payment processing, marketing or messaging tools, payroll, hardware, or other Square services. Square’s Appointments page lists a free tier, Plus at $29 per month per location plus processing fees, and Premium at $69 per month per location plus processing fees; these are the listed prices on that page and should be checked there for current terms and included features. The marketplace profile itself does not require buying Square hardware.
Visibility comes with marketplace competition
Customers can compare providers in the same marketplace. Square says recommendations use signals such as similar customers’ visits, but its available product information does not spell out the ranking formula or guarantee prominent placement. A marketplace listing can supplement a business’s own site and customer relationships; it should not be treated as a replacement for every owned booking or marketing channel.

When Square Go is a good fit
- Consider it if your local beauty or personal-care business already uses Square Appointments, wants another source of new-client discovery, and can keep services and availability current.
- It may suit solo stylists, nail and lash providers, barbers, and studios seeking simpler discovery and repeat booking within the Square ecosystem.
- Assess carefully if you operate multiple locations or a complex spa or med-spa operation; compare Square’s scheduling, resource, and customer-management capabilities with your operational needs. Square describes med-spa positioning on its med-spa page.
- Be cautious if your business is outside the U.S., many customers need Android, you require marketplace payments, or you already have a mature booking platform and would incur migration or duplicate-record costs.
For businesses comparing platforms, relevant alternatives include Vagaro for beauty, wellness, and fitness; GlossGenius for independent beauty professionals; and Booker by Mindbody for more extensive salon and spa operations. Their features and costs should be compared directly against the business’s needs; Square Go’s advantage is its connection to Square Appointments, not proof that it is the best fit for every provider. Square also provides a comparison discussion of scheduling software options.
If the profile or booking experience is not right
- Profile does not appear: Check U.S. location, eligible category, online booking, the previous-30-day booking condition, location status, and whether the channel was opted out. Square says an ineligible business may not see Square Go in its settings.
- Existing clients can manage appointments but new clients cannot find the business: The business may have opted out of discovery. Square says existing clients can continue managing bookings through Square Go, while new customers will no longer discover the business through the marketplace.
- Customers expect to pay in the app: Explain the business’s payment process in booking communications; Square Go does not currently accept payment in-app.
- Android users need to book: Keep a conventional online booking page or social booking link available as an alternative route.
For discovery opt-out and eligibility details, use Square Support’s Square Go instructions.
